Johan Santana (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch four innings in a rehab game Thursday for Low-A Savannah. Savannah is in the South Atlantic League championship series and Game 3 will be played at home Thursday. Santana allowed just one unearned run on two hits and a walk over three innings Friday in a rehab start for Savannah. Wednesday will be the one-year anniversary of his surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. We doubt that he'll pitch for the Mets this season, but that decision hasn't yet been made.

Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed that Johan Santana (shoulder) is unlikely to pitch for the Mets before the end of the season. Collins is "really excited" about Santana's progress, but the Mets are worried that the lefty could re-injure his shoulder if he gets amped up and tried to do too much in a start back in the big leagues. The plan for Santana going forward is up in the air depending on how the Mets' minor league affiliates fare in the playoffs. "He's (at the mercy) of the minor league schedule," Collins said. "...I'm hoping that either St. Lucie continues to win or Savannah gets in the finals to where we know that we'll have a scheduled game next week when he can pitch. If not, you'll probably see him here to pitch in a simulated game, if he's capable of doing so."

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com writes that it's "sounding more and more" like Johan Santana (shoulder) will not pitch for the Mets this season. It's a reversal of course, as Santana has looked good in his last two rehab appearances, and signs were pointing to him making a start with the Mets as early as next week. Ultimately, though, we can't be too surprised, and there's certainly no need to rush him back. Barring any setbacks, the lefty should enter spring training totally healthy.

Johan Santana (shoulder) allowed just one unearned run on two hits and a walk over three innings Friday in a rehab start for Low-A Savannah. He struck out one batter in the outing. Santana is done with rehab appearances and could be ready to rejoin the Mets rotation next week. Johan Santana (shoulder) will make his second and likely final minor league rehab start Friday with Class A Savannah. Santana is expected to throw approximately three innings or 40-45 pitches. The preference was for Santana to pitch with High-A St. Lucie, but they will face elimination in their playoff series on Thursday. Assuming all goes well, the southpaw could rejoin the Mets as soon as next week. The goal is for Santana to make one or two appearances in the majors before shutting it down for the winter.

Johan Santana (shoulder) is expected to join the Mets after making one final rehab start Friday. That would put him in line to start on September 14 or 15 at home against the Nationals, though it's possible the Mets might wait until their final home stand of the season, which begins on September 23, to give him a start. Santana will be on a pitch count of 50 Friday, so his first outing with the Mets would be an abbreviated one. Santana shouldn't be counted on in fantasy leagues, but a good showing late in the year could give him some momentum heading into the offseason.

Johan Santana (shoulder) threw two innings for High-A St. Lucie Saturday in his rehab debut. Santana allowed three hits and one run while striking out two. He is scheduled to throw three innings on Friday in either St. Lucie, Brooklyn, or Savannah, depending on which team has a playoff game that day. The left-hander could return to the major leagues in late September as a reliever.

Johan Santana (shoulder) is expected to begin his minor league rehab assignment Saturday with High-A St. Lucie. He is slated to throw either two innings or 40 pitches. This will be his first game action since being shut down in late July with discomfort in his surgically-repaired shoulder. The Mets still haven't ruled out the possibility that he could pitch an inning or two in the major leagues before the end of the season.

Mets manager Terry Collins remains optimistic that Johan Santana (shoulder) will return this season. Santana has begun doing mound workouts down at the Mets' spring training complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida. If he's able to avoid setbacks and progress quickly to simulated games, there's a chance he could be ready for major league action by the last week of September. Collins suggested that the left-hander could be used in relief.

The New York Post reports that it's "unlikely" Johan Santana (shoulder) will return this season. Santana has had a few setbacks in his recovery from shoulder surgery, and while he's back on track now, he's simply running out of time. The Mets haven't ruled out a return late in the year, but they may end up sending the lefty to Instructional League or winter ball instead of having him return to the major league rotation. "We're starting to look at Instructional League and winter ball and all those sorts of things, but at some point, he's going to need a good period of rest also," GM Sandy Alderson said.
