Kelly will get a final tuneup Saturday at Low-A Greenville before rejoining the Red Sox's rotation, the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber reports.
Steven Wright will get the spot start for Boston on Saturday against the Yankees. Manager John Farrell said that he wants Kelly to get his pitch count up to around 95 pitches, so look for that following his start for Greenville on Saturday to make sure he remains in line to jump back into Boston's rotation next week.

Boston manager John Farrell indicated that he would like to see Kelly (biceps) up around the 95-pitch mark before he makes his regular season debut, the Boston Globe reports.
Kelly (five innings, 78 pitches) and Steven Wright (six innings, 95 pitches) both pitched in an intrasquad game in Florida on Monday, but based on Farrell's comments, it looks like Wright may get the call this weekend when the Red Sox needs a fifth starter. Both pitchers were scheduled to join the Red Sox in Philadelphia for the continuation of their series with the Phillies.

Kelly (biceps) threw 78 pitches in an extended spring training appearance Monday, and could require another outing before rejoining the rotation, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Kelly's return date is a bit unclear at this point, but April 11 doesn't seem out of the question. However, another rehab outing would likely push that date back, but that decision hasn't been made yet. More news on the situation should come at some point this week.

Kelly (biceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Kelly is seemingly close to turning the page on the biceps injury, working up to 65 pitches in a minor league game Wednesday, and he appears a likely candidate to start the fifth game of the season for Boston (Apr. 11 at Yankee Stadium). However, by giving Kelly a backdated DL stint, the team can keep an extra bullpen arm or bench player for the first few days of the season. Kelly is scheduled to build his pitch count up to 80 in another minor league outing Monday.

Kelly (biceps) will throw a simulated game Monday, the Providence Journal reports.
If Kelly comes through the simulated game feeling healthy, he might be able to make a regular season start when Boston's needs a fifth starter Apr. 12 against the Yankees. The team also reserves the right to back-date a DL-assignment if they feel Kelly isn't ready to extend himself.

Kelly (biceps) will make his next spring start against minor-league competition, the Boston Herald reports.
The decision to have Kelly throw to minor leaguers likely means Boston will place him on the disabled list to the start the season. It preserves the team's option to backdate the DL-assignment.

Kelly (biceps) said he felt fine following a three-inning stint in an intrasquad game Friday, the Boston Globe reports.
The Red Sox have not yet decided if Kelly's next turn Wednesday will be against major-league or minor-league competition. Given that he's behind schedule, we suspect Kelly will throw against minor leaguers to preserve club's option to backdate a potential DL assignment.

Kelly (biceps) threw three innings in a minor-league intrasquad game Friday, the Boston Globe reports. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five. Thirty-one of his 53 pitches were strikes.
Kelly said the arm felt better throwing Friday than it has all spring and was hopeful. "Stuff-wise and health-wise, I felt really good," said the right-hander. There's a very good chance Kelly starts the season on the 15-day disabled list -- he's behind the other starters and hasn't built up his innings yet.

Kelly (biceps) will throw a minor-league game Friday instead of Boston's exhibition game against the Braves, ESPN Boston reports.
Red Sox manager John Farrell is talking about carrying four starters early in April as Boston can get by without a fifth starter until April 15th. As Kelly now projects as the fifth starter, he could be placed on the 15-day disabled list to open the season and still be ready to go for the 15th.
