Guthrie pitched well on Friday, giving up three runs on four hits in seven innings against the Astros.
He only recorded one strikeout, but managed to keep the ball down inducing eleven ground outs. Guthrie appeared to be on the ropes in the fourth inning when Carlos Lee and Brian Bogusevic hit back-to-back home runs, but he settled in and only allowed one hit the rest of the way. While Coors Field is a very difficult place to pitch, Guthrie should hold some value this season as a back-end fantasy rotation option.

Rockies Opening Day starter Jeremy Guthrie didn't have his good stuff Tuesday, giving up six runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits and a walk over six innings against the Diamondbacks.
He notched a pair of strikeouts. Guthrie came into the day with a 2.31 ERA in his first three spring outings, so we doubt the Rockies are worried about today's less than stellar outing. He'll get the ball on Opening Day against the Astros.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy has selected Jeremy Guthrie as his Opening Day starter.
He receives the nod over Jhouyls Chacin, though most figured it would be Guthrie starting on April 6 against the Astros. In three Cactus League starts, Guthrie has notched a 2.31 ERA, and he also threw six innings of one-run ball in a start against minor leaguers Thursday. With his flyball tendencies, we're worried about him in Coors Field, but Guthrie should at least eat up some innings for the Rox.

Jeremy Guthrie yielded just one unearned run over 4 2/3 innings Saturday against the Dodgers.
Guthrie surrendered four hits and walked two Dodgers hitters, but he operated well in damage control. The 32-year-old right-hander was acquired in an early-February trade with the Orioles and is expected to act as an anchor this year for Colorado's rocky rotation mix.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs on five hits over three innings of work against the Giants in his spring debut Wednesday.
He didn't record any strikeouts. Michael Cuddyer tripled in a run in the first inning off Guthrie and Melky Cabrera doubled in a run in the third. Guthrie's flyball tendencies don't fit well in Coors Field, but the Rockies are counting on him to eat up innings, something the righty has done well in recent years.

Rockies acquired RHP Jeremy Guthrie from the Orioles for RHP Jason Hammel and RHP Matt Lindstrom.
The deal was completed just before Guthrie was scheduled to enter an arbitration hearing with the Orioles. He has instead agreed to a one-year contract with Colorado. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 4.33 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 130/66 K/BB ratio in 208 innings last season for Baltimore. Guthrie is durable, but he's also a flyball pitcher and is doubtful to suddenly stumble upon dominance out in Colorado.

The Orioles and Jeremy Guthrie have an arbitration hearing scheduled for Monday.
Guthrie requested $10.25 million and was offered $7.25 million from the Orioles when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. With such a big gap between the two sides, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun gets the sense that they won't be able to find a middle ground before Monday.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Orioles and Angels have discussed a Jeremy Guthrie trade.
The Orioles have declined to discuss a contract extension with Guthrie, who is eligible for arbitration for the final time this winter and will hit the free agent market in 2012 if not re-signed. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a pedestrian 4.33 ERA and 1.34 WHIP this year, but he'd likely fare better in a different division.

Jeremy Guthrie told Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com that he hasn't spoken with the Orioles about a long-term contract since last offseason.
"We asked them if they were interested in exploring the option of a multi-year contract (last winter) and they politely said no," explained Guthrie. "So I would assume if their opinion changed they would approach us but otherwise we'll just continue down the road the CBA outlines for players. I think, if there is any interest, they would express it, otherwise we would just assume they stand where they stood before." Guthrie, 32, earned $5.75 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter. While he has value as an innings-eater, some expect the Orioles to put him on the trade block.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun writes that Jeremy Guthrie will "likely" be on the trade block this winter.
Guthrie is likely to earn $6 million or more this winter in his final year of arbitration, which is really not that much for a guy that's been solid for four of the last five seasons and who has reached 200 innings each of the last three years. But, the O's might decide they could get more value from him in a potential trade with the market this offseason looking grim. As Connolly notes, though, Guthrie has been on the block often over the last couple years and obviously hasn't gone anywhere.
