Jeremy Guthrie allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks in seven innings of work on Wednesday, falling to 5-15 in Baltimore's loss to the Royals. Guthrie was in line for his fourth straight quality start before he served up a three-run homer to Billy Butler with one out in the seventh inning. Now the owner of a 4.34 ERA and 1.34 WHIP, he'll get the White Sox at home next Monday.

The Cards are interested in adding a starter and moving Kyle McClellan back to the bullpen and have also been connected to Edwin Jackson in a potential deal involving Colby Rasmus. Guthrie has posted a 4.35 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 20 starts this season for the O's and would likely thrive in a move from the AL East to NL Central. The Tigers are also pursuing him.

Though he didn't pitch well Thursday and has been up-and-down the last few weeks, Guthrie probably represents the O's best trade chip and there would surely be multiple interested parties if he's made available.
