After starter Mitch Atkins allowed six runs in just 1 2/3 innings on Sunday, Jeremy Guthrie was called on to pitch in relief, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings of Baltimore's 8-6 loss in Boston.
The outing came on just three days of rest for Guthrie, who ended up throwing 73 pitches. The relief appearance was his second of the season after he threw an inning in Baltimore's 4-1, 15-inning loss to the Yankees on May 18. He enters the All-Star break with a 4.18 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec does not expect the Orioles to trade Jeremy Guthrie ahead of this month's non-waiver trade deadline.
Zrebiec believes the Orioles will wait until this offseason, where Guthrie will be arbitration eligible. Guthrie has hit a bit of a rough patch of late, but is still in the midst of one of his typically underrated seasons, posting a 4.23 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 74/30 K/BB ratio through his first 115 innings of work. He would greatly benefit from a trade out of hitter-friendly Camden Yards.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings of work on Wednesday evening, falling to 3-11 in Baltimore's 13-5 loss to the Rangers.
He notched just two strikeouts. Tonight was the second time in four outings that Guthrie allowed six runs, while he has allowed at least four runs in four straight starts, ballooning his ERA from 3.56 on June 16 to 4.23. He's turned in just one quality start in seven outings since the calendar flipped to May. He's a spot starter in mixed leagues.

Jeremy Guthrie got out-dueled by Jair Jurrjens on Friday evening, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks in seven innings of Baltimore's 4-0 loss in Atlanta.
He struck out six, and served up a two-run homer to Jason Heyward in the sixth inning. Although he took his 10th loss of the season, tonight was actually just Guthrie's second quality start in his past six outings. Don't be surprised if you start hearing his name come up in trade rumors ahead of this month's non-waiver deadline.

Orioles president Andy MacPhail said Friday that Jeremy Guthrie (back) is tentatively scheduled to make his next start.
The Orioles received some encouraging news Friday afternoon, as an MRI revealed only a minor muscle strain in Guthrie's back. He's considered day-to-day right now, so assuming he doesn't suffer a setback, look for him to toe the rubber against the Pirates next week.

An MRI has revealed a minor muscle strain in Jeremy Guthrie's back.
Guthrie revealed the news himself on his Twitter account and added that the plan is to get treatment every day and massage it out. It sounds like he'll avoid the disabled list, at least for the time being. Brad Bergesen will be on call at Triple-A in case he's needed next week.
