Jeremy Affeldt (oblique) threw an inning at extended spring training on Wednesday and felt strong. "I put as much pressure on it as I possibly could and it held up fine," Affeldt said of his oblique. "There's no soreness there. It was all good." The lefty reliever should be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Jeremy Affeldt (oblique) likely won't be activated from the disabled list until Friday. Affeldt threw another successful bullpen session Monday, but he's expected to throw live batting practice on Wednesday before being cleared to return. With Jose Mijares on the bereavement list, the Giants will go with one lefty in the pen until after Thursday's off day.

Giants placed LHP Jeremy Affeldt on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 15, with a strained right oblique. The Giants aren't sure when the left-hander was injured, but he'll need at least two weeks of down time, and probably more. Jean Machi has been brought up to take Affeldt's spot in the bullpen.

Jeremy Affeldt underwent laser eye surgery in November. It shouldn't affect his preparation for the new season. Affeldt, who signed a three-year, $18 million extension with the Giants last month, posted a 2.70 ERA over 63 1/3 innings in 2012.

Jeremy Affeldt is expected to take a physical Tuesday. If Affeldt passes -- and there's no reason to think that he won't -- his new three-year contract with the Giants will become official. That deal is thought to be worth around $18 million. Affeldt, 33, had a 2.70 ERA in 63 1/3 innings this season with the World Series champions.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Giants and Jeremy Affeldt have agreed to a three-year contract. The deal is expected to be worth a total of $18 million. Affeldt boasts a 2.66 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 since the beginning of the 2011 season and held left-handed batters to a .236/.319/.302 slash line in 2012. The 33-year-old lefty drew "considerable interest" on the open market, says Heyman, before re-singing with San Fran.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that Jeremy Affeldt's new contract with the Giants -- assuming it's completed -- is expected to be for three years and $18 million. All signs point to the deal being finalized before long. It's a pretty big haul for the left-hander, though it can be argued that Affledt has been one of the better relievers in the National League over the last two seasons. If the deal is indeed completed, fellow lefty Sean Burnett's market value shoots up.
