Jeremy Affeldt tweaked his right calf muscle in the ninth inning of Tuesday night's loss to the Padres. Affeldt was able to complete the inning, but said after the game that his calf "grabbed at him." He's hopeful that it's just a cramp, but we should know something more definitive Wednesday. The 32-year-old southpaw has a 3.11 ERA and 33/14 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings this season.

Jeremy Affeldt fanned five in two perfect innings to earn a save Sunday against the Indians. Brian Wilson was unavailable, so Sergio Romo was expected to get the ball in the ninth inning tonight. However, Affeldt was so impressive in the eighth that manager Bruce Bochy opted to stick with him. It was his second save of the season.
