Taillon limited the Cubs to one run on one hit and three walks in six innings Wednesday. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie ended his campaign on a high note, allowing only a first-row homer to Anthony Rizzo. The right-hander emerged as the team's ace, compiling a 3.38 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 104 innings. Including minor league action, he totaled 165.2 innings after missing the two previous seasons. The workload didn't slow Taillon down and he's put himself in position for an even greater role in 2017.

Taillon didn't factor into the decision versus the Nationals on Friday but recorded seven strikeouts and gave up three earned runs on six hits over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie exhibited sharp control in notching first-pitch strikes on 16 of the 22 batters he faced and not issuing a free pass for the second time in the last four starts. Taillon's pitch count has been closely monitored as the season has wound down, as he hasn't pitched past the fifth inning in any of his last three trips to the mound. He's enjoyed a solid rookie campaign overall, with a 4-4 record and 3.49 ERA that he'll try to improve on when he takes on the Cubs next Wednesday in his final start of 2016.

Taillon (4-4) gave up three earned runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings in Saturday's 10-4 victory over the Reds in the opening game of a doubleheader, while also recording two strikeouts. He helped his own cause with an RBI single in three at-bats as well.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie gave up his first homer in the last three starts, a 406-foot three-run shot by Adam Duvall in the third. It was Taillon's first victory since Aug. 11 versus the Padres, and his second straight five-inning stint. Taillon was pulled after only 79 pitches and will go for his fifth victory when he takes on the Nationals next Friday.

Taillon will start game one of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon had his previous start skipped in order to let Gerrit Cole (elbow) back into the rotation, but with Cole being shut down for the season, the rookie will get back to starting. He pitched well in his last outing against Cincinnati, holding the Reds to one run over six innings while striking out six, so he could be a decent option over the weekend.

Taillon will have his next start skipped, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon has been one of Pittsburgh's better starters since being called up in June, but it seems that the Pirates want to be cautious with the young hurler as the season winds down. The right-hander is currently sitting at 149.2 innings on the season between the majors and minor leagues, and since Gerrit Cole (elbow) is slated to return from the disabled list Monday, this ended up being the time to give Taillon a break. It's unclear if this is the only start the 24-year-old will miss or if he'll be kept out for a few more, but that should become clearer as the month rolls along.

Taillon gave up two earned runs in five innings Wednesday, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
He left the game with a one-run lead but ultimately came away with a no-decision. Taillon, who has been Pittsburgh's most consistent starter since debuting in June, needed 95 pitches (62 for strikes) to navigate his way through five innings. He pitched better as the game progressed, but the elevated pitch count ended his night prematurely. Pittsburgh's continues to monitor his workload, including stressful pitches and innings, but has given no specific information as to when and if Taillon might be skipped in the rotation (or possibly even shut down). The righty has totaled 149.2 innings split between the minors and majors after going two seasons without pitching a single inning.

Taillon (3-4) gave up an earned run on three hits over six innings in Friday's 1-0 loss to the Brewers. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie was stellar in his return to the big league club after a brief three-day stint in the minors, but was a tough-luck loser nonetheless. Taillon turned in his best performance since an eight-inning shutout of the Padres on Aug. 11 while throwing an efficient 76 pitches, 51 of which he fired for strikes. As has often been the case during his rookie campaign, he avoided the long ball altogether, after uncharacteristically having given up three homers over his two previous starts. He'll look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Taillon was recalled from the minors and will start Friday's game against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon has been fantastic during his rookie season, posting a 3.39 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 63:12 K:BB in 77 innings (13 starts). The Pirates have done a good job of monitoring his innings, and now that he is back up, he should be able to remain in the rotation over the rest of the season. Friday's home matchup is particularly appealing, as the Brewers have been the seventh worst offense in baseball (by wRC+) since the trade deadline.

Taillon was optioned to rookie-level Bristol on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The assignment to Bristol will allow Taillon to return Friday -- after Bristol's season ends -- in time for his next scheduled start. Taillon turned in his worst performance in the majors his last time out, allowing five runs on seven hits (including two home runs) over just three innings (57 pitches). However, the results have been very good overall and he figures to continue taking the mound every fifth day over the remainder of the season.
