Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.1 innings while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
He needed 89 pitches (52 strikes) to record 13 outs, and Flaherty gave up some loud contact when he was over the plate, with Ryan Braun's three-run shot in third inning being the big blow. The right-hander will try to shake this one off and post a better result at home against the Padres on April 4.

Flaherty's second start of the season is slated for the Cardinals' home opener April 4, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty is slated to make his season debut as the Cardinals' starter in the second game of a season-opening four-game set versus the Brewers. That will line him up to start the first home opener of his career versus the Padres. The 23-year-old right-hander enjoyed a solid spring, complementing a 1-1 record with a 2.12 ERA and .183 BAA across 17.0 Grapefruit League frames.

Flaherty will start the second game of the season, March 29 against the Brewers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was expected with Carlos Martinez (shoulder) on the mend and Miles Mikolas tabbed to start Opening Day. Flaherty has been stellar this spring, compiling a 2.77 ERA and 19:3 K:BB through 13 innings. Flaherty is also lined up to get the ball for the Cardinals' home opener against the Padres on April 4.

Flaherty struck out nine over four scoreless frames in Tuesday's Grapefruit League start against the Phillies. He gave up two hits and issued no walks in the outing.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty showcased ace-like stuff in his second outing of the spring, retiring seven straight Phillies via strikeout at one point during the start. When he wasn't whiffing hitters, he was inducing weak contact, with a pair of singles from Rhys Hoskins and J.T. Realmuto representing the only damage against Flaherty. Though the Cardinals have already decided to go with Miles Mikolas as their Opening Day starter, Flaherty's showing Tuesday might have helped him to clinch the No. 2 spot in the rotation to begin the season.

Flaherty will serve as the Cardinals' second pitcher in Saturday's exhibition opener versus the Marlins, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Miles Mikolas will get the starting nod, but both he and Flaherty are expected to cover around 40 pitches apiece as the Cardinals ease both hurlers in their first competitive action in 2019. The two pitchers likely represent the leading candidates to earn the Opening Day start, especially with one established rotation option (Carlos Martinez) already sidelined by a shoulder injury early in camp. Flaherty was excellent in his first year as a full-time starter for St. Louis in 2018, accruing a 3.34 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 over 28 outings.

Flaherty (8-9) allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three across 2.2 innings to take the loss Sunday against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty worked out of a jam in the first inning to keep the Cubs off the board, but wasn't so fortunate in the third inning when he allowed five consecutive batters to reach base. He ended the season with a 3.34 ERA and 1.11 WHIP despite allowing 12 earned runs across his last 12.2 innings. On a more positive note, he threw 182.2 innings between Triple-A Memphis and the major-league level, meaning there shouldn't be an impactful innings restriction in 2019 for 22-year-old.

Flaherty did not factor into the decision against the Brewers on Monday, allowing three earned runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batsman over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty could only get 57 of his 93 pitches into the strike zone, but he did manage to keep the Cardinals in the game during his stint on the mound. The rookie did bounce back to an extent from one of his rougher outings of the season against the Braves his last time out, when he allowed five earned runs over 4.2 innings. As the Cardinals' rotation currently lines up, Flaherty is slated to take the hill Sunday against the Cubs in the final game of the regular season, one that could be key to St. Louis' postseason hopes.

Flaherty (8-8) took the loss Wednesday against the Braves, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks across 4.2 innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty allowed just one hit through the first three innings before running into trouble. He allowed a two-run homer to Freddie Freeman in the fourth inning and was chased with two outs in the fifth inning after allowing three more runs on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch. It was a rare blowup for the rookie, who hadn't allowed more than three runs in any of his past eight starts heading into Wednesday. Flaherty still owns a 3.08 ERA and 11.0 K/9 on the season (26 starts) and will look to bounce-back in his next outing, which will come at home against the Brewers.

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks over five innings while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander threw 57 of 92 pitches for strikes and also uncorked two wild pitches, foreshadowing the end of the game when Bud Norris threw another one to bring Victor Reyes home with the winning run in the ninth inning. Flaherty will carry a 2.92 ERA into his next start Thursday at home against the Dodgers.

Flaherty pitched five innings in Monday's loss to the Nationals, allowing a run on three hits and five walks while striking out five. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
The run total certainly looks good, but the five walks are cause for concern, and Flaherty required 96 pitches to get through five innings. He avoided punishment for those walks, however, as the only run he allowed came on a Trea Turner solo shot. The outing lowers the 22-year-old's ERA to a stellar 2.83. He'll next take the hill Saturday in Detroit.
