Flaherty allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out five over five innings in Thursday's win over the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty didn't issue a walk for the first time this season, but his seven hits allowed marked a season high. He allowed run-producing hits to Jordy Mercer and Gregory Polanco and served up a two-run homer to Josh Bell in his final inning of work. It wasn't Flaherty's finest start, but he still holds an impressive 2.62 ERA through his first six starts this season. He'll face an easier test Tuesday against the Marlins.

Flaherty (2-1) gave up one run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings Saturday in Pittsburgh, picking up his second win of the season.
EDGE Analysis
He needed 88 pitches (61 strikes) to get through six frames, and lowered his ERA to 2.15 through five MLB starts. The Cardinals will have a tough decision to make when Carlos Martinez (lat) returns in a few weeks, but Flaherty is doing everything in his power to claim a long-term spot in the rotation. He will face this same Pirates team Thursday, this time at home.

Flaherty (1-1) got the win against the Phillies on Sunday, striking out 13 over 7.2 dominant innings, yielding just two hits, one walk and an earned run as the Cardinals won 5-1.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty was lights out in logging his first double-digit strikeout effort and first victory of the season with the 13 punch-out effort before exiting the contest after throwing 120 pitches. The talented 22-year-old has impressed in his four starts this season, having yielded just six earned runs over 23.1 innings to give him a 2.31 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and a 27:7 K:BB. With Adam Wainwright and Carlos Martinez both on the disabled list, Flaherty has almost certainly locked down a spot in the St. Louis rotation for the time being but he's pitching like a guy that should be at the big-league level regardless, and he should continue to make a fantasy impact for as long as he's getting the opportunity.

Flaherty did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out three over 5.2 innings against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
With Adam Wainwright (elbow) placed on the disabled list earlier in the day, Flaherty pitched admirably filling in the vacated rotation spot. The 22-year-old didn't allow a baserunner past first base through 5.2 innings until allowing consecutive hits to the final three batters he faced. In three starts in the majors this year, Flaherty has struck out 14 in 15.2 innings to go along with a 2.87 ERA. Though no official announcement has been made regarding Flaherty's status in the rotation, he'd next be lined up to pitch Sunday against the Phillies if he does take another turn.

Flaherty was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday and will start against the Twins the same day.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty is up to replace Adam Wainwright, who hit the disabled list with elbow inflammation. He could be up for an extended period, though, with Carlos Martinez (lat) also on the disabled list and without a return timetable. In two starts for the Cardinals this season, Flaherty has 11 strikeouts and five walks in 10 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits.

Flaherty, who'll be recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Memphis for his third spot start of the season, could remain with the big-league club for an extended period, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty mowed down a career-high 13 batters in his most recent start for the Redbirds last Wednesday, and manager Mike Matheny notes that the young right-hander's slider has "a little more juice" recently. Matheny actually feels that a sinker Flaherty has developed is making the slider more effective, as it sets up the latter pitch well and has also helped the 22-year-old keep the ball down (19 groundball outs over his last three Triple-A starts). Flaherty may have a chance to flash his improved repertoire for multiple big-league starts this time around, considering Adam Wainwright (elbow) is expected to hit the disabled list for the third time this season and Carlos Martinez (lat) is currently without a firm timetable for return.

Flaherty will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis and start for the Cardinals against the Twins on Tuesday, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cardinals currently have Adam Wainwright (elbow) and Carlos Martinez (lat) on the disabled list -- though Wainwright is slated to start Sunday -- paving the way for Flaherty. The 22-year-old has allowed four runs on 10 hits and five walks in his two starts in the majors this season, each of which lasted five innings.

Flaherty struck out a career-high 13 batters while allowing two earned runs on six hits over 6.2 innings in Triple-A Memphis' win over Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty allowed a solo home run and RBI single to the Dodgers' Donovan Solano, but he was otherwise dominant, even recording seven straight strikeouts from the last out of the third through the fifth inning, Tyler Maun of MiLB.com reports. The promising right-hander has been solid in a pair of spot starts at the big-league level this season as well, generating a 3.60 ERA and 11 strikeouts over 10 innings. Flaherty has been even better with the Redbirds, posting a 4-1 record, 2.27 ERA, .190 BAA and 0.92 WHIP across 31.2 innings.

The Cardinals optioned Flaherty to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
With Adam Wainwright (elbow) hitting the 10-day disabled list last Sunday, Flaherty was summoned from the minors for his second start of the season Saturday against the Pirates. He covered five frames while taking the loss in the contest, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two. The Cardinals will send Flaherty back to Memphis to clear a spot on the active roster for fellow Triple-A rotation member Austin Gomber, but it's likely that Gomber will only stick around with the big club as a long reliever. St. Louis is able to get by without a fifth starter until May 8, at which point Wainwright may be ready to return from the DL or Flaherty could be recalled for another start.

Flaherty (0-1) allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out two across five innings to take the loss Saturday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty's start was a mixed bag as he pitched better than his final line will indicate, with the biggest problem being that he lost his command and walked the last two batters he faced. Those runners were ultimately allowed to score and Flaherty's line was inflated as a result. However, this was by no means his best outing as he allowed a home run and relied on three double plays to get out of jams, so his line wasn't completely undeserved. It remains unclear whether Flaherty will have the opportunity to redeem himself, an answer that will likely be determined by Adam Wainwright's health.
