Flaherty (5-6) tossed seven scoreless innings Thursday to earn the win over the Cubs, allowing just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty displayed dazzling stuff in this one, throwing 66 percent of his pitches for strikes as he reached nine punchouts for the second straight outing. He retired 13 of the first 14 hitters he faced and supported his strikeout totals with six groundball outs as well. Flaherty has been superb over his last five starts, allowing just four earned runs while posting a 39:9 K:BB across 31.1 innings. He'll take a quickly improving 3.93 ERA into next week's road start against the Dodgers.

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 win over the Astros, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings while striking out nine.
EDGE Analysis
That's now three quality starts in his last four trips to the mound for Flaherty, and the right-hander has a sharp 2.48 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB through 29 innings in July. Despite his recent success, though, victories remain elusive -- he's 0-3 over his last 12 starts, with his last win coming May 14. Flaherty will try to get back into the win column in his next outing Thursday, at home against the Cubs.

Flaherty allowed six hits and two walks while striking out seven over 4.1 scoreless innings Sunday against the Reds. He didn't factor into the decison.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty managed to keep the Reds off the board, but he ran into trouble in the fifth inning, allowing back-to-back hits before drilling the third batter of the frame. Luckily, he got Yasiel Puig to pop out to second base, and the bullpen was able to record the final two outs of the inning without letting a run cross the plate. The 23-year-old hasn't picked up a win since May 14, despite allowing just two runs over his last three starts.

Flaherty allowed one run on three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts across seven frames in a no-decision against the Pirates on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old is still searching for his first win since May 14, but he has back-to-back outings where he pitched seven innings and allowed one run. That's quite improvement from the 11 runs he yielded in the previous 9.1 innings. Flaherty is 4-6 with a 4.41 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 104 innings this season. He will again try to end his victory drought in his next start at the Reds on Sunday.

Flaherty (4-6) allowed one run on two hits and one walk across six innings while taking the loss against the Giants on Sunday. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty's only significant mistake came on a solo home run from Evan Longoria in the seventh inning, but unfortunately, that was enough to sink him to a loss due to a lack of run support. Decision aside, Flaherty threw 70 percent of his pitches for strikes and needed just 83 to complete seven strong innings. He had struggled in his two previous starts, so this was an excellent way to rebound heading into the All-Star break. The right-hander is more capable than his 4.64 ERA indicates and will hope to post better numbers in the second half.

Flaherty did not factor into the decision against the Mariners on Tuesday, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up a pair of runs in the second inning, Flaherty appeared to settle down until a two-run home run by Omar Narvaez ended his evening with two outs in the fifth. He struggled with efficiency throughout the appearance, throwing 103 pitches and walking four batters. It was the second consecutive outing in which Flaherty failed to make it out of the fifth inning; he suffered a seven-run implosion against Oakland his last time out. After a strong rookie season, the 23-year-old has shown some regression in 2019, posting a 4.90 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through 90 innings. He'll get the ball for the Cardinals in their final game of the first half in San Francisco on Sunday.

Flaherty (4-5) allowed seven runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts across 4.2 innings while taking a loss against the Athletics on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Everything was going pretty smoothly for Flaherty through four frames, but he couldn't make it through the fifth, and before he exited, Flaherty gave up six runs on six hits, including two homers. He tossed up a lot of hits Tuesday, but homer runs have been his biggest issue. Flaherty has allowed nine homers in his last 25.2 innings; that's a major reason why he hasn't captured a win since May 14. Flaherty is 4-5 with a 4.75 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 94 strikeouts in 85.1 innings this season. He will pitch next at the Mariners on Tuesday.

Flaherty (4-4) took the loss Tuesday as the Cardinals were downed 6-0 by the Marlins, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out eight.
EDGE Analysis
It was a strong effort, but the right-hander got no help from his offense -- his own ground-rule double in the third inning was the only extra-base hit St. Louis could manage off Jordan Yamamoto. Flaherty now has six quality starts on the year, and he'll take a 4.24 ERA and 89:26 K:BB through 80.2 innings into his next outing Tuesday, at home against the A's.

Flaherty racked up eight strikeouts and allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks across 5.1 innings in a tie game suspended by rain in the ninth inning versus the Mets on Thursday. He will not factor into the eventual decision.
EDGE Analysis
Flaherty won't pick up a win for his troubles, but his performance Thursday was relatively encouraging after a rough outing versus the Cubs in his previous start. The right-hander had been chased after 3.2 innings in that outing, but he was much more effective from a strikeout perspective versus the Mets. Flaherty recorded 17 swinging strikes overall and equaled his best whiff tally over his last seven trips to the mound. The 23-year-old still sports an unsightly 6.43 ERA across his first three starts of June, however, a figure he'll look to whittle down in his next scheduled turn, Tuesday at home against the Marlins.

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Cubs, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. He failed to strike out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
It was the first time all season Flaherty had failed to fan a batter, and his only shorter outing came April 16 in Milwaukee, when he got chased with two outs in the third inning. The young right-hander now sports a 4.08 ERA and 73:23 K:BB through 68.1 innings, and he'll look to rebound in his next start Thursday, on the road against the Mets.
