Derek Jeter (ankle) played catch again Monday at the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa, Florida. Jeter still hasn't done any sort of infield work since the Yankees announced that he would be placed on the 15-day disabled list to open the season. There is no official timetable for his return and the Yanks aren't offering any hints. He seems likely to miss most of April.

Yankees placed SS Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a left ankle injury. As expected, Jeter will open the season on the DL. Yankees GM Brian Cashman hasn't ruled out the possibility the Jeter could be return when first eligible, but it's looking like he could wind up missing a large chunk of April.

Derek Jeter (ankle) will not appear in another minor league game until early next week. Jeter last played in a game on Saturday and reported feeling soreness in his surgically-repaired ankle when he woke up Sunday morning. The Yankees have already committed to placing him on the disabled list for the start of the regular season and it sounds like he could wind up missing a large chunk of April.

Derek Jeter will be held out of all activity Sunday after reporting soreness in his surgically-repaired left ankle. "He's sore," general manager Brian Cashman said. Jeter was the DH during a minor league game Saturday, but he evidently didn't come out of it well. He also reportedly looked very timid on the basepaths. At this point, it's not looking good for Jeter being ready for Opening Day. If he is carried on the roster, he'll likely be limited to DH duty early on.

George A. King III of the New York Post writes that Derek Jeter (ankle) "has to move a lot better than he did (Saturday) in order to be in the Opening Day lineup a week." Jeter went 0-for-4 as the DH in a Triple-A game Saturday, and King said the future Hall of Famer did not look comfortable at all on the basepaths. "It takes time, but I was also cautious, the field was kind of wet and I almost wiped out twice coming out of the box, but that is something you build up to,'' Jeter said. King believes that Jeter would be used as a DH initially in the event he is carried on the Opening Day roster, as it's not clear when he'll resume playing the field. That would mean Eduardo Nunez starting at shortstop.

Derek Jeter (ankle) will DH in a minor league game Saturday. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he's still not sure when Jeter will get in the field again and that he wants to see him play shortstop in back-to-back games before putting him on the Opening Day roster. The Yankees will continue to hold Jeter out of Grapefruit League action for the rest of spring training in case they need to backdate a DL stint. Jeter remains hopeful that he'll be ready for the start of the season.

Derek Jeter (ankle) will not appear in another Grapefruit League game this spring. The Yankees want to be able to backdate a disabled list stint if Jeter is not available for the start of the regular season. He is expected to play in games on the minor league side of camp at some point next week.
