Derek Jeter will be in the designated hitter slot again Monday but could play shortstop in his next game appearance. "If that's what he feels he's ready to do, then we'll do it," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He has a 100-percent clearance from the doctor." Jeter wasn't able to run to first base at full speed during his Grapefruit League debut Saturday, but that should come soon. "Now it's normal spring training," he said. "I played a game. So now it's just continue to get more and more comfortable. More at-bats. More pitches. More times running on the bases."

Derek Jeter collected a single in two at-bats Saturday against the Braves in his spring debut. After two times up as the Yankees' DH, Jeter was replaced by Travis Hafner. He's likely to make several more starts at DH before seeing his first time at shortstop.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Derek Jeter (ankle) could make his Grapefruit League debut as soon as Saturday. Well, look how that worked out, Jeter and Mariano Rivera making their spring debut the same day. The shortstop will DH in his first game back. Jeter, of course, underwent surgery last October to repair a fractured ankle but has been given "final clearance" by doctors. He has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day, barring a setback.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Derek Jeter (ankle) has been given "final clearance." Jeter had one last checkup on Thursday afternoon in North Carolina with the doctor that performed his late-October ankle surgery and Girardi told reporters back in Yankees camp that it "went great." The veteran shortstop remains a solid fantasy option for the 2013 season. He should begin playing in Grapefruit League games this weekend.

Derek Jeter (ankle) is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut March 10. Jeter was cleared for on-field running drills for the first time this weekend and hasn't reported any setbacks in his surgically-repaired ankle. The Yankees will likely limit him to DH duties early in spring training, but Jeter remains on track to be ready for Opening Day.

Derek Jeter (ankle) participated in on-field running and agility drills Saturday for the first time since surgery. Jeter still isn't ready to play in Grapefruit League games, but this is another sign that he remains on track with his rehabilitation schedule. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to roll for the Yankees on Opening Day.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi plans to occasionally start Derek Jeter (ankle) in the designated hitter slot against left-handers this season. It makes sense not only because it will allow Jeter some rest for his surgically-repaired ankle, but also because the team's primary DH, Travis Hafner, isn't nearly as good against lefties. Eduardo Nunez will play shortstop when Jeter is the DH.

Derek Jeter (ankle) will not be ready to play in Grapefruit League games when they begin next week. No surprise there. Jeter, of course, is recovering from October surgery for a broken ankle, but The Captain says he's "right where I'm supposed to be" and fully expects to be ready to go by the start of the regular season.

Derek Jeter on Monday ran on a treadmill for the first time since undergoing surgery in October on his left ankle. Jeter also fielded 80 ground balls, making slight side-to-side movements. "I'm progressing, like I told you," Jeter said. "I'm right where I need to be. I've gotten the OK to do everything." Barring any setbacks, Jeter should be ready to roll for the Yankees on Opening Day.
