David Wright went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored Friday in his first minor league rehab game with High-A St. Lucie. He also played five innings at third base. GM Sandy Alderson said Wednesday that he expects Wright to return from the disabled list next Friday, which couldn't come any sooner for the Mets' anemic offense.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday that he expects David Wright (back) to return from the disabled list next Friday. Wright is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with High-A St. Lucie. Mets manager Terry Collins had previously indicated that Wright would need 30-40 at-bats before being activated from the disabled list, but Alderson's comments suggest that he could be back with the Mets even sooner. The 28-year-old third baseman was batting just .226 with six homers and a .741 OPS over his first 172 plate appearances before going on the disabled list with a stress fracture in his back in mid-May.

David Wright (back) isn't expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment until Friday with High-A St. Lucie. We previously heard that he would begin his rehab stint Wednesday, but that's apparently not the case. Wright is expected to need 30-40 at-bats in the minors before being activated from the disabled list, so it's unlikely he'll rejoin the Mets until around July 22 or perhaps later.

David Wright (back) is expected to take pregame batting practice Thursday with High-A St. Lucie. It's a good sign, though the Mets haven't decided when Wright will go out on a minor league rehab assignment. If all goes well in the coming days, there's still a chance he could be activated for the first series of the second half against the Phillies, which begins next Friday.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that David Wright (back) likely won't go out on a minor league rehab assignment until next week. Wright hasn't experienced any setbacks in his rehab, but the Mets want him to take it slow after such a lengthy absence. It's still possible that he could return during the first series immediately following the All-Star break, which begins next Friday against the Phillies.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson said it remains "realistic" that David Wright (back) returns shortly after the All-Star break. Wright has begun hitting from a tee and on Friday swung at front tosses without any issues. He could begin playing in rehab games in about a week. Wright has been sidelined since mid-May with a stress fracture in his lower back.

David Wright (back) hit off a tee Friday at the team's facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Nice to hear. Assuming everything goes off without a hitch, Wright is expected to begin playing in minor league rehab games next week. He should rejoin the Mets around the All-Star break.

David Wright (back) is aiming to begin playing in rehab games in about one week. Wright has been performing baseball-related activities since early last week and began swinging a bat on Wednesday. As long as everything continues to go smoothly, the third baseman should be ready to return to the Mets' starting lineup around the All-Star break.
