David Wright (hamstring) could return to the Mets' lineup by the middle of next week.
Wright ran the bases on Wednesday and will do it again Thursday before ramping up his activities over the weekend. If that goes well, it sounds like he could be activated for next week's series against the Giants. Wright has been sidelined since early August with a Grade 3 strain of his right hamstring.

David Wright ran the bases on Wednesday for the first time since injuring his hamstring.
Both Wright and the Mets believe that the veteran third baseman will return to the field this season, and this is certainly encouraging news on that front. Wright has been out since early August with a Grade 3 strain of his right hamstring. Assuming he suffers no setbacks, Wright will likely reach his goal.

David Wright (hamstring) still believes that he'll return to the field this season.
"I don't think the clock is going to run out," he said. Wright returned to New York over the weekend to continue his rehab. For what it's worth, the Mets also remain hopeful that their start third baseman will return before the end of the month. Wright has been out since early August with a Grade 3 strain of his right hamstring.

David Wright (hamstring) has returned to New York to continue his rehab.
Wright hasn't suffered a setback, as he's moving things back to New York because there are no longer any pitchers for him to face at the Mets' spring training complex. The Mets remain hopeful that he will return before the end of the month. "There's no setback," manager Terry Collins said. "None. Zero. He's moving forward."

Mets manager Terry Collins said Friday that he hopes David Wright (hamstring) will be able to DH with High-A St. Lucie on Monday.
Monday is the last day of St. Lucie's season and Collins said Wright would be "lucky" to be ready by then. That means he'll likely be doing most of his rehab in simulated games. Wright still isn't a lock to make it back this season, but he'd prefer to go into the winter with some peace of mind.

David Wright (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie over the weekend.
St. Lucie's season ends on Sunday, but Wright won't be ready at that time. He'll presumably play in some simulated games after that until the Mets feel comfortable enough to activate him. Wright said Thursday that he'd be comfortable with not making it back this season, though he doesn't think that will be the case. "You don't want to go into the offseason with the uncertainty of an injury," he said. "And most importantly, I don't want this to affect me next year or the years to come. So I have to rehab this properly, be diligent with it, stay on top of it. And be honest with the rehab guys and the medical guys down in Florida, as I continue to make progress. But all signs are good. I haven't had a single setback yet."

David Wright (hamstring) will start tracking pitches on Thursday in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
In other words, Wright will stand in the batter's box while pitches go by. He was cleared for running this past weekend and is aiming to begin playing in minor league rehab games by early next week. The third baseman could be back with the Mets around mid-September.

David Wright (hamstring) has resumed a running program.
Wright tested his hamstring by running in the outfield prior Saturday's game and is expected to ramp up baseball activities early next week. Mets manager Terry Collins admitted there's a chance Wright might not play again this season, but he's hoping to return during the final month of the season.

David Wright (hamstring) said Tuesday that he doesn't think "in my mind there's any question" that he'll return this season.
Mets manager Terry Collins said earlier this month that there's a chance Wright wouldn't return, but the third baseman is more optimistic. To this point, Wright has been limited to leg-strengthening exercises, upper-body work, playing catch and hitting off a tee. He's hoping to ramp up his activities relatively soon, though, and once that happens there should be a short turnaround. "It's not like I've forgotten how to play the game in two weeks," Wright said. "I don't think it would be long at all."

Mets manager Terry Collins admitted Friday that there's a chance David Wright (hamstring) might not play again this season.
Wright was originally expected to miss only 3-5 weeks, but is dealing with a fairly significant injury and remains without a timetable to resume baseball activities. "No question," Collins said. "There's nothing etched in stone. If he gets back, tremendous. That means the healing process and all the rehab stuff will work. But there is absolutely no timetable at all."
