David Wright went 0-for-3 on Monday and is hitting .182 with no homers in 33 at-bats this spring. The Mets held Wright back at the beginning of the spring, figuring he wouldn't need the extra at-bats. Now it's starting to seem as though he might. It's not really anything to worry about, though.

Mets manager Terry Collins said he might bat the pitcher eighth this season to increase RBI opportunities for David Wright and Curtis Granderson. "I think both [Wright and Curtis Granderson] are RBI guys," Collins said. "My thought is: How do we get them more RBI chances and also give David, in particular, chances to drive in runs. It is a possibility I might try [hitting the pitcher eighth.] I don't know that I will, but I might." The tactic was used most famously by Tony La Russa with some of his Cardinals teams as a way to create more run-scoring opportunities ahead of Albert Pujols. Such a move would be a boon to Wright and Granderson's RBI totals, but probably not enough to move either player up draft boards at this point.

David Wright is expected to play in an instrasqaud game on Thursday. Bartolo Colon, Jonathan Niese, and Bobby Parnell are expected to pitch in the game. Wright has been held out of exhibition action so far to minimize the potential injury risk, but he's likely to make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday.

David Wright arrived at the Mets' spring training complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida on Thursday. Mets camp doesn't open for another two weeks, but Wright always arrives before the spring training starting date and he's there extra early this year to host a Super Bowl Sunday charity event for a St. Lucie Mets employee affected by cancer. Wright is the second-ranked third baseman in the 2014 Rotoworld Draft Guide, behind only Miguel Cabrera.

David Wright, Nolan Arenado and Juan Uribe have been announced as finalists for the National League Gold Glove award at third base. Wright hasn't won the award since 2008, when he took home the second of back-to-back Gold Gloves. Still, he's probably a favorite over first-time finalists Arenado and Uribe. The winner will be announced next week.

David Wright (thumb) returned to the Mets starting lineup on Saturday. Wright was forced to leave Thursday's contest after he was hit by a pitch in the helmet, and injured his thumb while attempting to get out of the way. He'll return to a stellar .312/.397/ line on the season with 18 homers, 57 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 110 games.

David Wright (thumb) is not in Friday's lineup against the Brewers. Wright left Thursday's game after he was hit in the helmet with a pitch, but he passed all concussion tests. However, he hurt his thumb while attempting to get out of the way of the pitch, so he'll take the day off. It's possible he'll play Saturday.

David Wright has passed his concussion tests. Good to hear. Wright was plunked on the helmet by a Johnny Hellweg changeup Thursday and left as a precaution, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. The third baseman should be considered day-to-day.
