Red Sox owner John Henry said Wednesday that an extension for David Ortiz is "conceivable."
Ortiz, who is entering the final year of his contract, recently told reporters that he is looking for a one-year extension. Henry appears amenable to his demands, though he still thinks the 38-year-old could finish his career with the Red Sox even if an extension isn't done right now.

David Ortiz is looking for a one-year extension on his current contract, he said in a discussion with WEEI.com's Rob Bradford.
"We're good. We talked, they're talking and I just asked for one year. I didn't ask for anything crazy. It wasn't like I asked for a five-year deal. It's a one-year extension I asked for," Ortiz said of his discussions with the club. In the same conversation the 38-year-old said talks with the club have been "great." It was reported earlier in the week that Ortiz was unhappy with the team's hesitation to offer a long-term contract, but the designated hitter is trying to squash those notions. His current contract expires after the 2014 season.

David Ortiz said it would be "time to move on" if Boston doesn't offer a long-term contract.
Ortiz wants to retire as a member of the Red Sox, but desires a long-term deal more. "Hey, I would like to," Ortiz said. "I'm having fun. It's been a hell of a ride as long as I've been here. But as I always keep on telling people, this is a business. Sometimes you've got to do what's best for you and your family." Ortiz, who reached 2,000 hits last season, has one year remaining on the two-year extension he signed last winter. Last year Ortiz blasted 30 homers and drove in over 100 runs for the first time since 2010.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington confirmed Thursday that the team plans to continue discussions with David Ortiz on a contract extension.
The team and the veteran slugger have already opened dialogue on a potential extension, and Cherington noted that the discussions would continue throughout the upcoming season if necessary. The 38-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract, has already admitted his desire to get a deal done before the season begins, and it's very likely that the two sides iron something out in the coming months.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox and David Ortiz are having discussions Friday about extending the designated hitter's contract through 2015.
Ortiz will be paid $15 million next season before hitting free agency, but the Red Sox want to make sure he never hits the open market. The veteran DH turned 38 last month, but he appears to have more left in the tank after batting .309/.395/.564 with 30 homers and 103 in 2013 before winning the World Series MVP.

David Ortiz was named the World Series MVP after Wednesday's Game 6 victory.
All Ortiz did in the series was hit .688/.760/1.188 with two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. Wednesday's game was his first in the series without a hit, largely because the Cardinals finally gave in and walked the big man four times. He may be 37 years old, but Big Papi is proving he can still rake.

David Ortiz stayed red-hot Monday, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double in a World Series Game 5 win over the Cardinals.
Ortiz followed Dustin Pedroia's one-out double in the first inning with a double of his own to plate the first run of the game. The only out Papi made on the night was on a line drive to center field. The slugger tied a World Series record by reaching base in nine straight plate appearances and is now hitting an absurd .733/.750/1.267 for the series. The Red Sox will try to close it out on Wednesday in Boston.

David Ortiz will start at first base for the Red Sox in Game 5 of the World Series on Monday.
As he has done in both games so far at Busch Stadium. Mike Napoli will again come off the bench. Ortiz has been a monster so far in the best-of-seven Fall Classic.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that David Ortiz will start at first base in Game 3 on Saturday.
He hasn't committed to using Ortiz beyond that, saying he'll evaluate it on a daily basis. Given how well Papi is swinging the bat, though, he seems likely to be at first for all three games in St. Louis. That means Mike Napoli will ride the bench.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said that David Ortiz is likely to start at first base for Game 3 of the World Series.
Farrell hasn't committed to using Papi beyond that, saying he'll evaluate it on a daily basis. He's clearly the Red Sox' best offensive weapon right now, though, so it would be a surprise if he doesn't wind up starting all three games in St. Louis at first base. Mike Napoli will be on the bench when Papi is at first.
