David Ortiz snapped an 0-for-23 hitless streak with a two-run single in Friday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. He also walked twice. There has been some clamoring for Ortiz to get a day off or move down in the order, but John Farrell's faith in the big man was rewarded on Friday. The two-run single ended up being the difference in the ballgame.

David Ortiz (back) is in Friday's lineup. Ortiz ended up missing one game due to lower back tightness. He's starting at first base Friday, while Mike Napoli will miss his sixth straight game with left foot soreness.

David Ortiz said that he's "not really concerned" about his back. "I think it'll be fine," he added. Ortiz first dealt with some lower back tightness Monday and then had to exit Wednesday's game against the Giants after his back tightened up on him again. It doesn't sound like more than a day-to-day situation, though.

David Ortiz smashed his 22nd homer of the season in a losing effort against the Royals on Friday. Ortiz finished the night 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored an an RBI. His solo shot came courtesy of Royals starter Ervin Santana in the second inning. Ortiz has done nothing but hit since returning from the disabled list in late April, hitting .333/.412/.593 with 22 bombs and 74 RBI. Incredibly, he continues to improve as a hitter at 37-years-old.

David Ortiz is not in Thursday's lineup against the Royals. He's presumably getting a routine day of rest. Mike Napoli will serve as the DH while Daniel Nava will make the start at first base.

Still, the two runs driven in gives Papi 73 for the year, and the 37-year-old is still hitting a ridiculous .326/.407/.584 through 95 games this season.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says Major League Baseball officials reviewed the incident and have decided not to levy any discipline.
