The Diamondbacks and Daniel Hudson are discussing a contract that would avoid salary arbitration, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com is hearing. Hudson is rehabbing from his second Tommy John surgery that's limited him to just nine starts since the beginning of 2012. The team would like to avoid arbitration with the right-hander, and they've got until Monday to decide whether to offer him arbitration. If the Diamondbacks decline to offer him arbitration Hudson would become a free agent. Either way, the 26-year-old will have to settle for a one-year deal and hope to rebuild his value during the 2014 season.

The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.
