Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette confirmed Saturday that the team attempted to sign Chris Davis to a contract extension but were unable to get a deal done. Instead, the two sides agreed to a one-year contract earlier in the month to avoid heading to arbitration. Duquette notes that the team will certainly try again to lock their preeminent slugger long-term, as he's not set to reach free agency for another two seasons.

Orioles avoided arbitration with 1B Chris Davis by agreeing to a one-year, $10.35 million contract. Davis receives a bump in salary of over $7 million in his second year of arbitration eligibility. Of course, he earned every penny of it by mashing 53 homers and driving in 138 runs in 2013. "Crush" should be a fantasy stud again in 2014.

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette announced that Baltimore will tender contract offers to all nine of its arbitration-eligible players. "We are planning on tendering those guys," Duquette said. "Most of the guys we have there are real good players." Baltimore's nine arbitration-eligible players are: catcher Matt Wieters, first baseman Chris Davis, outfielders Nolan Reimold and Steve Pearce, relievers Troy Patton, Brian Matusz, Tommy Hunter and Jim Johnson and starter Bud Norris. Reimold and Pearce, particularly, were non-tender candidates. Duquette said Reimold was progressing well from a neck/spine condition that required multiple surgeries.

Chris Davis has been diagnosed with a sprained left wrist. Davis suffered the injury in the fourth inning Sunday when Jacoby Ellsbury clipped the first baseman's glove hand while beating out an infield single. He was able to move the wrist around before leaving, indicating that the ailment probably isn't too serious. However, he'll surely undergo some tests just to be safe.

Chris Davis left Sunday's game against the Red Sox with an apparent left hand injury. Jacoby Ellbury clipped Davis' glove hand while beating out an infield single in the fourth inning. The first baseman rotated his wrist without any apparent issues, but the Orioles, not surprisingly, decided to play it safe and pull him. The club should have an update on his status after the game.

Chris Davis launched his 53rd home run of the season Friday against the Red Sox. Davis went 2-for-3 in the loss. With 53 homers, he currently finds himself ranked 26th all-time on the single-season list. "Crush" has the most homers in the majors since Jose Bautista hit 54 in 2010. He still has two days left in the season to pass that mark.

Chris Davis hit his 51st home run on Tuesday as the Orioles topped the Red Sox 3-2. Davis' 51st was also an Orioles record for most in a season, passing Brady Anderson's 50 homers hit in 1996. There's little left to be said that hasn't been said already about the first baseman's career year, as he's now hitting .293/.376/.651 with 132 RBI and 100 runs scored in an MVP-caliber season.
