Orioles manager Buck Showalter is hopeful that Chris Davis (oblique) can return in 15 days but isn't expecting it. "The normal time (for an oblique strain) is more than the DL period but we'll see," the skipper said. Davis will officially be placed on the DL later Sunday. The Orioles are expected to mix and match at first base while he's out.

Chris Davis will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left oblique. The Orioles are hoping that he will be ready to return as soon as his 15 days are up. A breather could be helpful for the 28-year-old first baseman, who has opened the 2014 regular season with a weak .382 slugging percentage and just two home runs in 22 games.

Chris Davis was removed in the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Royals with a strained left oblique. The Orioles have yet to provide an estimated timeline for his recovery, simply stating that he'll be evaluated further. As with most oblique strains, a stint on the disabled list looks likely.

Chris Davis was removed from Friday's game against the Royals in the fifth inning due to an apparent injury. No word yet on what the injury is or the extent of the damage, but he was seen grimacing during his last at-bat. The Orioles should have an update on the All-Star slugger's status shortly.

Chris Davis went 2-for-5 with three runs batted in as the Orioles routed the Blue Jays 11-4 on Thursday. Davis hasn't shown last year's power much in 2014, but he's been content to take his walks and drive the ball the opposite way as he did for both of his singles on Thursday. It would be shocking if Davis, who hit 33 home runs in 2012 before blasting 53 last season, doesn't eventually rediscover his power.

Chris Davis went 2-for-4 and hit his second homer Wednesday versus Toronto. It's the first multihit game for Davis in 15 days. Again, we're not particularly concerned about his early slump.

Chris Davis went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Saturday's loss and is 3-for-18 over his last six games. Davis already had 30 homers by this time last year, so it's rather disappointing to see him stuck on one through 55 at-bats. Still, it's not a major concern just yet. Even after his recent slump, he's still batting .255, and there's no doubt the homers will come soon enough.

Chris Davis hit his first home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays. The homer was Davis' only hit in three at-bats in the game. After blasting 53 home runs a year ago, the first baseman needed 12 games to put one over the boards this season. He's one of the most powerful hitters in the game, so he's still a good bet to finish near the league lead by the time it's all said and done.

Steve Melewski of MASN Sports reports that the Orioles have yet to have advanced talks with Chris Davis regarding a long-term contract extension. Davis is admittedly happy that he was able to avoid arbitration and agree to a deal with the team over the winter, and both sides appear to have interest in getting an extension worked out. He still has two season to go before hitting free agency, so there isn't urgency to get a deal done.

Chris Davis hit his first spring homer Monday off the Twins' Trevor May. Davis only hit three homers last spring, providing little in the way of foreshadowing that a huge year was on the way. He's 2-for-6 after two games this spring.
