CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles, Athletics, Indians, Pirates and Dodgers are among the teams interested in Chase Headley. The A's are the newest team to emerge as a potential suitor, but it isn't surprising they are giving a push now that they have surged into the playoff race. Headley is under team control through 2014, so the Padres will want a significant haul in return.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Padres have "asked the Pirates for a significant package of prospects" in trade talks for third baseman Chase Headley. The same goes for every other club who has inquired about Headley this summer. The talented 28-year-old third baseman is under contractual control with San Diego through the 2014 season and has been one of the team's top all-around performers this year. The Friars are obviously not going to rush him out the door.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Athletics are among the team interested in Chase Headley. It's no surprise, as the A's are desperate for some help on the left side of their infield. Headley also won't hit free agency until 2015, which surely appeals to general manager Billy Beane, but it also means it will take more to acquire him. Headley is making $3.475 million this season.

According to Peter Gammons of MLB Network, the Dodgers don't believe they will be able to acquire Chase Headley from the Padres. Headley is making $3.475 million this season and remains under team control though 2014, so the Padres will likely ask for significant prospects in return, especially if they trade him to a division rival. With the asking price likely too steep for the Dodgers' tastes, they may have to make due with the disappointing Juan Uribe at the hot corner.

Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM reports that there are now six teams in trade discussions with Padres regarding Chase Headley. It's not clear which teams are currently involved in talks, but Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported earlier this month that the Dodgers, Pirates, Indians, Orioles, Diamondbacks and two unidentified teams were believed to have "some level of interest" in a possible deal. For what it's worth, Bowden concludes that the 28-year-old third baseman will likely be traded by the July 31 non-waiver deadline. Headley is making $3.475 million this season and remains under team control though 2014, so he's a pretty valuable trade chip.

Chase Headley went 3-for-4 with a run scored on Saturday, helping the Padres to a 5-2 win over the Brewers. Headley is quietly having a pretty productive season in the middle of the Padres' lineup, hitting .260 with seven homers, 29 RBI and five steals. He's probably a fringe option at third base in 10-team fantasy formats, but Headley has been pretty valuable in deeper leagues.

Chase Headley (back) is back in the Padres' lineup Wednesday. Headley sat out Tuesday's game due to lower back tightness, but he's apparently feeling much better. The third baseman is batting .245/.368/.417 with five homers and three steals this season.

Chase Headley is not in Tuesday's lineup due to lower back tightness. It's a recurrence of an injury that he first suffered in spring training. Headley is missing only his second start of the season, and, until further notice, should be considered day-to-day.

Chase Headley went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. He also drew his 28th walk of the season, which is good for second in the National League behind Joey Votto. Headley sports a .254 batting mark to go along with five homers and 20 RBI on the year. He still doesn't provide as much power as you'd like from a corner infielder, but he makes up for it somewhat with some steals and what should be a decent run total given the improvement in his plate discipline.

Chase Headley went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies. Headley took Juan Nicasio deep for a solo shot in the first inning before tagging him again for a two-run bomb in the sixth. Headley's four home runs are already as many as he hit in 113 games a season ago. That either means he's on his way to a power breakout, or has used up his home run allotment for the next 60 days. The truth is likely somewhere in between. He remains a below-average, if acceptable, option at third base in deeper mixed leagues.
