Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune believes it would take at least four years and $36 million for the Padres to extend Chase Headley. The Padres and Headley have yet to discuss a long-term deal, but GM Josh Byrnes made it clear that he won't be actively shopped this winter. Headley was a Super Two player in 2010 and made $3.48 million last season. He still has two more years left of arbitration.

According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, the Padres and Chase Headley have yet to discuss a long-term contract extension. Brock notes that an "Internet report" from earlier this week claimed the two sides have had discussions about a multi-year deal, but that's not the case. Still, Padres general manager Josh Byrnes made it clear that Headley will almost certainly begin the 2013 season with the club. "I think people know we're not going to move him," said Byrnes. Headley enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2012 and is under contract through 2014.

The Padres have announced that they will move the fences in at Petco Park next season. The decision was made a while back but was officially announced Monday. The dimensions down the left-field line and in center field will remain the same, but the right- and right-center field walls will be moved in 11 feet, while the left-center field wall will be moved in 12 feet. While we suspect Petco will still be pretty favorable to pitchers, the new dimensions should certainly help offensive numbers a bit. Keep this in mind when considering guys like Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin next spring.

Chase Headley closed his breakout 2012 by going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Brewers. Headley also stole his 17th base. The owner of a .286/.376/.498 slash, Headley closes the book on 2012 the owner of 63 extra-base hits and 115 RBI. The on-base percentage and slugging percentage are both new career bests, as are his 31 home runs. Headley had previously never gone deep more than 12 times. Signing Headley to a long-term deal figures to be a priority for the Padres' new ownership.

Chase Headley hit his 30th home run in Saturday's win over the Giants. It's the first 30-homer campaign of Headley's six-year career after he previously never launched more than 12 home runs in a season. He had a monster all-around night, drawing a walk, scoring three runs and stealing his 16th base. Headley is sporting a .283/.372/.488 slash with four games to go. His .860 OPS would be a new career best by 87 points if it holds through Wednesday.

Chase Headley had another pair of hits as the Padres topped the Dodgers 2-1 on Tuesday evening. Headley is having an outstanding season, now batting .283/.370/.486 with 29 homers, 108 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Proceed with caution, however, heading into 2013. Headley's home run-to-fly ball ratio is an absurd 22 percent, which is more than double his career rate. The regression is probably coming.

Chase Headley swatted a pair of home runs - one of which proved to be the game-winner - in Friday's 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Headley took Tyler Skaggs deep for a three-run bomb in the third before untying a 5-5 game with an eighth-inning solo shot off David Hernandez. The two-homer night was his third of the season, and gives him 26 bombs on the year. That's 14 more than he had ever hit in one campaign heading into 2012. It's looking more and more like the Padres made the right call in holding onto their .287/.370/.488 hitting third baseman at the trade deadline.

Chase Headley had another big night Monday, belting a two-run homer and adding an RBI single in a loss to the Dodgers. This comes on the heels of his six-RBI day Sunday. Unfortunately for the Padres, the performance was all for naught, as the Dodgers came back to tie it in the ninth and won it in the 11th.

Chase Headley went 4-for-5 with a homer and six RBI, but it still wasn't enough to deliver a victory over the Rockies on Sunday. Headley also swiped a base in the game. He got the Padres on the board with a two-run bomb off Jeff Francis in the first inning. He added RBI singles in the third and sixth innings, and a two-run single in the fifth. The 28-year-old third sacker is experiencing a true breakout season, hitting .282 with 23 homers, 89 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Padres are leaning against trading Chase Headley this offseason. Headley has been mentioned as a possible trade chip for a while now, but the Padres are encouraged by their second-half surge and think they could compete next season. The 28-year-old is making just $3.475 million this season and remains under team control through 2014. If the Padres keep Headley around, Jedd Gyorko's future would be at second base.
