The Padres are telling teams they may not be willing to trade Chase Headley this offseason. The Padres didn't get offered anything they liked for Headley at the deadline, and aren't budging from their high asking price. According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, new ownership believes top prospect Jedd Gyorko has played enough second base to be a viable, "Dan Uggla-type" option. Headley is is arbitration eligible for the first time next season and under contract through 2014.

According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Padres may still trade third baseman Chase Headley. There's less than 30 minutes left until the non-waiver trade deadline, so the Padres don't have much time to find a match. Headley is the club's best hitter and is under team control through 2014, so the asking price figures to be sky high. The Yankees, Phillies, Indians, Athletics and Pirates have all reportedly expressed interest in recent weeks.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi, the Phillies have interest in the Padres' Chase Headley. The Phils need a solution at the hot corner with Placido Polanco nearing the end of his career and Headley would provide a major upgrade. But word is the Padres might hold off until the winter to deal the 28-year-old, who is under contract through 2014. The Yankees, Indians, A's and Pirates have also expressed recent interest.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Padres "aren't far down the road" in trade talks involving Chase Headley. Olney thinks they might wait until the offseason to trade the third baseman, which would allow more teams to get in on the bidding. Headley won't hit free agency until 2015, so the Pads certainly don't have to deal him soon if they don't find the right fit. Jedd Gyorko is tearing it up at Triple-A, though, and appears big league-ready.

Headley is making just $3.48 million this season and remains under team control through 2014.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the market for Chase Headley is "huge" and that there's now a "strong probability" that he will be traded. Upwards of ten teams have expressed interest in a possible deal, including the Orioles, Indians, Athletics and Pirates. The Yankees are expected to check in now that Alex Rodriguez (hand) is on the disabled list, but Heyman writes that they are unlikely to make a major push because they aren't willing to give up the prospects it would take to land him. Headley is making just $3.475 million this season and remains under team control though 2014.
