Chase Headley went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Wednesday to finish a series in Coors Field 0-for-12.
While it didn't come with a bunch of homers, Headley was on a pretty good roll until this week, raising his averaging 20 points and his slugging percentage 40 points since the beginning of July. Denver, though, proved unusually unkind, and it's now time to think about dumping him in mixed leagues.

Chase Headley hit a triple in Sunday's 1-0 win against Arizona.
He finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Headley has reached base in 22 straight games, the second-longest streak of his career. His overall slash line is just .238/.338/.381, but Headley is batting .293 in July.

Chase Headley has reached base in 21 straight games.
It's the second-longest streak of his career, as he reached in 28 straight last season. Headley is sporting a nice .311/.422/.514 batting line with nine doubles, two homers and eight RBI over that stretch. Fantasy owners want to see more power, but it's good to see Headley moving in the right direction.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees inquired about Chase Headley but were told he's "as close as possible to an untouchable player without actually being one."
That's probably not totally true, but it's not really a good time to trade Headley, anyway, given that he's batting only .229/.330/.359. Heyman adds that the Padres would consider dealing their third baseman only if "it's absolutely the right deal.'' Headley is making $8.575 million this season and will be arbitration-eligible for the final time over the winter.

Chase Headley went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a loss to the Nationals on Friday.
Headley connected for a ground-rule double in the top of the first inning and later added a solo home run in the third. In a deep funk for nearly two months now, it was his first home run since way back on June 11. We were expecting some regression from Headley this season, but he's clearly better than what he's shown until this point. Fantasy owners would be smart to attempt to buy low, especially considering the way he performed after the All-Star break last year.

Chase Headley hit his sixth homer and walked Tuesday versus the Braves.
The homer was his first since May 29 and sixth overall. He's been in a deep slump these last few weeks, but it's only a matter of time until he turns it around.

Chase Headley is not in the Padres' lineup Sunday.
It doesn't appear to be because of his calf, which forced him from Friday's game. Rather, Headley is sitting because he's batting just .167 with a .532 OPS in his last 28 games. Alexi Amarista is getting the start at third base Sunday.

Chase Headley (calf) is in the Padres' starting lineup on Saturday night against the Rockies.
Headley was removed from Friday's game due to right calf soreness, but it was only a minor concern for the Friars. The talented third baseman is batting just .229/.335/.363 but should get going soon.

Chase Headley left Friday's game with right calf soreness.
The full extent of the injury isn't yet known, but Headley will likely need to undergo an MRI and is hoping that he isn't dealing with a more serious setback. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout before exiting.

Despite the fact that contract extension talks are on hold, the padres have no intention of trading Chase Headley.
Headley has remained firm in his stance that he doesn't want to discuss a contract extension during the season, but that hasn't caused the Padres to panic. He won't become a free agent until after the 2014 season, so there is still plenty of time for the two sides to work out an agreement, and no reason for the Padres to be in a hurry to deal away their best player.
