Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Padres are "willing to listen to offers" for Chase Headley.
Sherman says the Padres have "made a few runs" at signing Headley to a long-term extension, but so far the two sides have been unable to get on the same page. He adds that the Yankees have inquired on the third baseman before, but "neither side thinks they match up" for a deal. Headley will be a free agent following the 2014 season.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that there is "growing sentiment" that Chase Headley will be traded this offseason.
It's been previously reported that the Padres had determined they would not deal Headley and instead would look to sign him to an extension this winter. ESPN's Buster Olney said last week those talks haven't begun, so perhaps the club has had a change of heart. If the Padres do decide to trade Headley, they would be selling low, as he's coming off a disappointing season following his breakout showing in 2012.

The Padres and Chase Headley have yet to discuss a long-term contract extension, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.
Headley stood to get seriously paid after his monster 2012 but lost some money with a subpar 2013 season, as the 29-year-old struggled to a .250/.347/.400 line while hitting just 13 home runs. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported that the two sides are likely to discuss an extension at some point during the winter meetings, so maybe they just haven't gotten together yet.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Padres and Chase Headley are likely to discuss a contract extension during the general manager meetings this week.
Heyman notes, though, that there's "no evidence (the two) sides have ever been close" to a deal. The Padres probably should have traded Headley last offseason when his value was at an all-time high, but at this point it appears they've determined an extension would be the best course of action. Headley is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Padres recently completed organizational meetings and determined it would be best not to trade Chase Headley this offseason.
They'll still listen to offers, but Sherman notes that the Pads believe "it is more in a win-now mode and will deal him only for cost-effective players ready for the majors now or close to the majors." They would also be selling low on Headley, so it makes more sense to hope he can rebuild his value before possibly dealing him at the trade deadline if they're out of contention. The third baseman is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter.

Padres manager Bud Black said that Chase Headley had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday morning.
Black said that Headley came out the surgery fine while the expectation is that he should have plenty of time to get ready for spring training. The 29-year-old is coming off a disappointing year in which he batted just .250/.347/.400 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI over 141 games this season, but injuries undoubtedly had a lot to do with it.

Chase Headley went 3-for-5 with two RBI against the Phillies on Tuesday.
It's been a forgettable season for Headley, but he's attempted to salvage it somewhat of late. Headley has now hit in nine of his last 10 games despite missing five games with back stiffness. Still, the third baseman is hitting just .243/.333/.381 this season.

Chase Headley homered in the bottom of the ninth as the Padres came back to beat the Rockies 3-2 on Friday.
After Headley tied it, the Padres kept rallying and won the game on an Jesus Guzman single. Headley has homered in back-to-back games, giving him 10 homers and 38 RBI this season. He'll need a fairly strong finish from here to match last year's totals of 31 homers and 115 RBI.

Chase Headley belted a solo homer in his return to action Wednesday.
He also drew a walk in the loss to the Giants. Headley missed the previous five games due to lower back stiffness, but he's clearly feeling much better. Fantasy owners should feel free to stick him back into their lineups.
