CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Padres and Chase Headley are likely to discuss a contract extension during the general manager meetings this week. Heyman notes, though, that there's "no evidence (the two) sides have ever been close" to a deal. The Padres probably should have traded Headley last offseason when his value was at an all-time high, but at this point it appears they've determined an extension would be the best course of action. Headley is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter.
