Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Padres recently completed organizational meetings and determined it would be best not to trade Chase Headley this offseason. They'll still listen to offers, but Sherman notes that the Pads believe "it is more in a win-now mode and will deal him only for cost-effective players ready for the majors now or close to the majors." They would also be selling low on Headley, so it makes more sense to hope he can rebuild his value before possibly dealing him at the trade deadline if they're out of contention. The third baseman is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter.
