Athletics pitching coach Curt Young said that Brett Anderson (oblique) felt good during a 28-pitch side session Wednesday. Young called it a "great sign." Anderson hasn't pitched since September 19 due to an oblique injury, but the A's haven't ruled him out as an option for the postseason.

Brett Anderson admitted that his right oblique was tender during his pregame workouts. He'll throw a bullpen session Wednesday before the A's determine what next to do with him. Manager Bob Melvin hasn't ruled Anderson out for a potential Wild Card start Friday, though obviously the A's won't go with him unless they're convinced the lefty is 100 percent.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin hasn't ruled out Brett Anderson (oblique) as an option to start a potential Wild Card game Friday. Anderson's threw a 50-pitch bullpen session Monday and didn't have any issues with his ailing right oblique. Since he hasn't appeared in a game since September 19, it remains to be seen if Melvin would feel comfortable enough giving him the ball in a do-or-die game. But, it can't hurt to have the lefty as an option.

Brett Anderson (oblique) felt good after a bullpen session Monday. Anderson had two sessions of throwing with a break in between to simulate innings. If he makes it through an abbreviated session Wednesday, he feels he could be an option to pitch in a potential one-game Wild Card playoff on Friday. The 24-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched since September 19 due to an oblique injury.

Brett Anderson (oblique) went through an intense throwing session on Thursday morning. Anderson made 20 throws from 60 feet and 15 throws from 75 feet without experiencing any sort of pain or discomfort. The left-hander is aiming to contribute to the A's postseason run and would seem to be on track as long as the club advances past the Wild Card round.

Brett Anderson (oblique) could play catch Thursday. Anderson made simulated throws with a sock-ball Wednesday, and if his oblique feels good Thursday, he should be cleared to begin throwing for real. He just injured his oblique a week ago, so if he's able to resume a throwing program with no issues Thursday, he could be a bit ahead of schedule. The lefty still won't return during the regular season, but it's possible he could help out in the playoffs.

Brett Anderson reportedly improvement with his strained oblique while running Tuesday but admitted that he can still feel it. "Hopefully I'll clear another hurdle today," he said. It's nice that Anderson is reporting improvement, but he remains out for the rest of the regular season and is no sure thing to return during the playoffs.

Brett Anderson (oblique) will miss the rest of the regular season. Anderson left Wednesday's start against the Tigers after just 2 1/3 innings with tightness in his right oblique. He hopes to be back for postseason play, but Oakland will monitor how his rehab goes. In six 2012 starts, Anderson went 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA over 35 innings. Travis Blackley will take his spot in the rotation.

Brett Anderson (oblique) will undergo an MRI Wednesday. The A's should have a better idea as to how much time he'll miss after the exam. As it turns out, Anderson did not injure himself when he fell in the third inning, but the oblique just got progressively tighter as the inning went along. Travis Blackley is assuming his spot in the rotation for now.
