Ryan (back) has been taking swings but is still "a ways away" according to manager Joe Girardi, Newsday reports.
After the initial projection that he'd miss just five days, it's possible Ryan will be out close to the entire spring as he deals with a mid-back strain. If he is forced to miss the majority of spring training, the lost playing time could cost him the opportunity to earn a platoon with either Didi Gregorius or Stephen Drew at shortstop or second base.

Ryan (back) may resume light baseball activities Wednesday, ESPN New York reports.
Ryan initially suffered a mid-back strain on Feb. 27 and was expected to miss just five days, so the recovery has already taken longer than anticipated. It's still not considered to be a long term issue, but he's been off the field completely since last Thursday, so there should be a clearer timetable for a return if he's able to participate in baseball activities Wednesday.

Ryan (back) has stopped participating in baseball activities, the NY Daily News reports.
Ryan returned to the field Tuesday after suffering a mid-back strain, but felt soreness after taking swings and fielding practice. The injury was not initially believed to be too serious, but it's possible Didi Gregorious or Stephen Drew -- both potential options to share a platoon with Ryan in the middle infield -- could gain some separation in his absence.

Ryan (back) is feeling better, but will not resume baseball activities until at least Monday, Wallace Matthews of ESPN reports.
Ryan suffered a mid-back strain from a weight lifting injury Friday, but he's not expected to miss extended time. The Yankees' first game of spring training is on Tuesday, so Ryan will likely miss that, but he should be able to return a bit later in the week.

Ryan has suffered a mid-back strain and will miss five days, Wallace Matthews of ESPN reports.
It is a strain, not a sprain. This is likely inconsequential due to Ryan's negligible fantasy value, but it will at least mean a little more time for Didi Gregorious to get his reps in as he takes over shortstop.

Ryan went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in a rare start at second base for the Yankees on Sunday.
Ryan hadn't played in a week prior to Sunday's start, and had the pleasure of facing Chris Sale in that start. After the acquisitions of Stephen Drew and Martin Prado, the path for playing time for Ryan has been blocked.

Yankees activated INF Brendan Ryan from the 15-day disabled list.
Ryan began the season on the DL with a pinched nerve in his back, but he had no issues during his recent rehab assignment. The 32-year-old could see more playing time than your average backup shortstop playing behind Derek Jeter, who figures to need regular rest as the season moves along.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Brendan Ryan (back) will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.
Ryan has hit .320/.433/.320 during seven rehab games and is no longer bother by his back injury. With Derek Jeter struggling at the plate and in the field, Ryan should see a decent amount of playing time at shortstop.

Brendan Ryan (back) will not be activated Monday.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was initially told that Ryan was going to join the Yankees in time for Monday's game in Anaheim, but that report proved false. Ryan, who has been on the disabled list all season, could return Tuesday.

Brendan Ryan (back) is expected to join the Yankees in time for Monday's game against the Angels.
Ryan has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training with a pinched nerve in his back. Derek Jeter is struggling to catch up to pitches in his age-39 season, so Ryan could get considerable playing time.
