Ryan (calf) has been playing in extended spring games and could begin a rehab assignment soon, The Westchester Journal News reports. There's no timetable for exactly when a rehab assignment might begin, but Ryan has been progressing well in Tampa and has been able to both swing and field ground balls. He'll likely need at least a few games during his rehab stint before getting major league ready, but when he does return he could supplant Gregorio Petit and the right-handed utility infielder option.

An MRI on Wednesday revealed Ryan has suffered a Grade 2 right calf strain, per the Yankees' official site. Ryan suffered the injury during Wednesday's Grapefruit League game, and it looks to be a bit more serious than expected. In fact, the Yankees almost immediately acquired infielder Gregorio Petit from the Astros and promoted him to the big league roster. A timetable has yet to be released for Ryan's return, but look for starter Stephen Drew to see even more reps than normal until that happens.

Ryan suffered a right calf strain Wednesday and will undergo an MRI, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Ryan had to be removed from Wednesday's Grapefruit League game and had to be helped into the dugout, indicating that it could be a somewhat serious injury. There's no timetable being given just yet, but the team should have a better idea of where he stands after seeing the results of the MRI.

Ryan had to be removed from Wednesday's Grapefruit League game with an apparent knee injury, David Lennon of Newsday reports. Ryan had to be helped down the dugout stairs, so it appears that it could be more than just a minor setback. With Didi Gregorius nursing his own injury, Ryan was in line to fill in at shortstop if Gregorius wasn't back in time for Opening Day. Nick Noonan replaced Ryan in the spring game and could take his roster spot if he's forced to miss extended time, but more news regarding the extent of the injury should become available after Wednesday's game.

Ryan (back) is in the lineup for Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. It will be Ryan's first Grapefruit League appearance of the year after a mid-back strain sidelined him for about three weeks. His roster spot is likely still safe despite the missed time, but he'll need to have a strong spring showing to earn more at bats by the start of the regular season.

Ryan (back) is listed on the Yankees' travel roster for Friday's game against the Tigers, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Ryan is yet to play this spring while battling a mid-back sprain, so if he plays Friday it will be his first action. He's been taking swings and fielding of late, but it remains to be seen whether he's shown the team enough to begin the season as more than a utility infielder.

Ryan (back) could be back within the week according to manager Joe Girardi, the NY Post reports. Ryan has been able to take swings and field ground balls, but he's still already missed two weeks for what was believed to be a minor issue. Even if he does return to game action within the week, it's possible the missed time will reduce Ryan to a utility infielder rather than a middle infield platoon option.
