Brendan Ryan (back) is expected to need 10 more at-bats during his rehab assignment before being activated by the Yankees. Ryan has played in four games for High-A Tampa and will move up to Double-A Trenton on Friday. It sounds like he'll join the Yankees for their road trip beginning on Monday in Anaheim.

Brendan Ryan (back, hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Tampa on Sunday. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he wants the infield to get 50 rehab at-bats, which means he's not going to be activated late next week as originally hoped. Count on seeing Ryan back during the first full week of May if all goes well.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Brendan Ryan (back, hamstring) is about a week away from being activated. Ryan has been playing in extended spring training games for a week, though he had a mini-setback earlier this week when his hamstring tightened up on him. However, it sounds like he's back on track and will rejoin the Yankees in early May.

Brendan Ryan (back) was limited to six at-bats during a simulated game Saturday due to a tight hamstring. Ryan was playing in his first game since March 4. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said it was "a little bit" of a setback for the infielder and seemed skeptical Ryan would be activated by the end of next week as originally hoped. "I don't know now," Girardi said. "We'll see how he feels next week. For that to happen, we'd have to push him a little bit. But we'll see."

Brendan Ryan (back) is slated to play in a minor league game on Saturday. Ryan final resumed baseball activities a week ago and is now nearly ready for game action. The Yankees are expecting the shortstop to be ready to rejoin them sometime next month.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Brendan Ryan (back) "may have started some light baseball activity today." Girardi wasn't sure, but either way it appears Ryan has made some minor progress. That said, he's not close to being activated from the disabled list, as it will be a while until he's game-ready and he's expected to need a good number of rehab at-bats.

Brendan Ryan (back) has yet to resume baseball activities. Ryan is dealing with a pinched nerve in his upper back and it doesn't appear he's anywhere close to returning. The Yankees will continue to use Dean Anna as Derek Jeter's primary backup at shortstop while Ryan is on the shelf.

Brendan Ryan (back) is scheduled to begin swinging a bat underwater Monday in Tampa, Florida. Ryan stayed behind at the Yankees' spring training complex when the team headed north to continue rehabbing the pinched nerve in his back. There is no timetable for his activation from the disabled list.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday that Brendan Ryan (back) will not be ready for activation from the disabled list when his 15 days are up. Cashman noted that Ryan will essentially be starting spring training over after being saddled with oblique and back issues nearly all of March. Eduardo Nunez will serve as Derek Jeter's primary backup at shortstop for now.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Wednesday that Brendan Ryan (back) will begin the season on the disabled list. No surprise here, as an MRI last week showed that Ryan has a pinched nerve in his back. There's no clear timetable for his return. Eduardo Nunez will serve as Derek Jeter's primary backup at shortstop for now.
