Brandon McCarthy threw eight scoreless innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Phillies.
It was McCarthy's best start to date, but he still wasn't able to get the win thanks to a blown save by Heath Bell. The Diamondbacks made a questionable decision not to let him go for the complete game, as he was removed after just 88 pitches. McCarthy has now put together back-to-back quality starts and is starting to look more like the pitcher he was in 2012. He has 5.63 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through his first eight starts.

Brandon McCarthy surrendered four runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Giants.
Par for the course for McCarthy this year. What was odd about his rough April (0-3, 7.48 ERA) was that he was so poor while surrendering just three homers in his five starts. Tonight he was a more traditional kind of bad, giving up long balls to Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence. The home run ball figured to be more of a problem for him in Arizona than it was in Oakland; so far, he's given up three homers at Chase, one in Colorado and another in Yankee Stadium.

Brandon McCarthy dropped to 0-3 after giving up six runs in six innings Friday against the Rockies.
McCarthy struck out seven tonight after fanning a total of 11 batters in his first four starts. So that would seem to be a good sign. Still, he gave up nine more hits, bringing his total to 45 allowed in 27 2/3 innings on the season. He simply has to get better if he stays healthy.

Brandon McCarthy escaped with a no-decision after giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings Sunday against the Rockies.
McCarthy was bailed out by late-game heroics from Gerardo Parra and Alfredo Marte. It's been a rough start to the season for McCarthy, who now owns a 7.06 ERA and 1.85 WHIP. He'll look to get back on track Friday in a rematch with the Rockies.

Brandon McCarthy exited after allowing nine hits and four walks in four innings against the Yankees on Tuesday.
It's the third straight subpar start for the right-hander, who now owns a 7.47 ERA and 2.04 WHIP on the year. He's a better real-life pitcher than fantasy pitcher, and when he's struggling like this it makes him virtually unusable. His next start, Sunday in Colorado, doesn't bode much better.

Brandon McCarthy surrendered six runs -- four earned -- in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Pirates.
Five of the runs came in the fourth, an inning that started on a Jason Kubel error. Obviously, McCarthy's Diamondbacks tenure hasn't opened as hoped -- he's 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA -- but there's no reason to be down on him yet.

Brandon McCarthy was tagged for six runs and nine hits in five-plus innings by the Cardinals in his Diamondbacks debut Wednesday.
McCarthy threw 59 of his 73 pitches for strikes, a remarkable percentage. He might have been better off missing off the corner a few more times. McCarthy struck out just one batter on the night. Of course, he didn't walk anyone, though he did plunk Matt Holliday. He hurt his cause in the third when he threw away Jon Jay's comebacker, but since it was ruled a single and an error, it didn't result in any unearned runs.

Brandon McCarthy allowed 10 hits but held the White Sox to two runs over six innings Wednesday.
The lanky right-hander issued one walk and struck out three. McCarthy sports a 5.00 ERA this spring, but he has a 19/3 K/BB ratio over 18 innings and, more importantly, hasn't had any shoulder issues. He'll be a solid fantasy option if he can stay off the DL.

Brandon McCarthy turned in a solid performance against his former squad on Friday, racking up six strikeouts while allowing two runs on three hits over his four frames.
While the 6.00 spring ERA certainly looks troublesome at first glance, McCarthy has posted a terrific 16/2 K/BB ratio over his 12 innings of work. Despite his injury risk, and the fact that he'll pitch half of his games at Chase Field, McCarthy looks like a nice value play that can be scooped up in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

Brandon McCarthy allowed one run while striking out five over three innings in Monday's win over the Reds.
McCarthy didn't walk anyone, with the lone damage against him coming in the form of a Zack Cozart solo homer. The right-hander has now given up two runs while striking out nine over five innings in his two spring outings.
