Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will return to the Diamondbacks' rotation next week.
McCarthy has been rehabbing with Triple-A Reno, lasting six innings in his most recent start on Friday. And with Tyler Skaggs' struggles, the Diamondbacks have decided McCarthy will take his next turn in the rotation. McCarthy has made just 11 starts this season, going 2-4 with a 5.00 ERA.

Brandon McCarthy fared well during his minor league rehab start with Triple-A Reno on Friday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings.
McCarthy also walked one and struck out three on the night. All of the damage against him came on a two-run homer off the bat of Carlos Peguero. The most encouraging sign of the night was that he threw 62 of his 85 pitches for strikes. It's not yet known if he'll require another rehab start before rejoining the D'Backs rotation.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday that he doesn't expect Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) to be ready to join the team's rotation just after the All-Star break.
McCarthy threw live batting practice on Tuesday and should be cleared for a rehab assignment soon. He's been out since late May, though, and will need to build up some arm strength. Expect him back in late July.

He was cleared after another successful bullpen session Saturday. Though the Diamondbacks wouldn't reveal the plan after Tuesday, McCarthy figures to be cleared for a rehab assignment soon. He should rejoin the rotation later this month if he avoids setbacks.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday afternoon.
McCarthy experienced renewed shoulder soreness after a June 21 bullpen session and was limited to flat ground throwing last week, so Monday's workout will be a big test. The right-hander has been on the disabled list since May 31. There's no timetable yet for his return.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) was able to play catch on flat ground on Wednesday afternoon.
It was supposed to be a mound workout, but McCarthy experienced some fatigue in his right shoulder after throwing a bullpen session last week and has backed off a bit from his original rehab plan. The hope is he'll be ready to return to Arizona's rotation around mid-July.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
It will be his first since a nagging shoulder injury sent him to the disabled list in late May. McCarthy was cleared to throw from the bump after long-tossing from 105 on Monday with no issues. It's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment, but a return early next month seems likely.
