Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) played catch from 105 feet on Monday.
It's not clear what the next step is, but McCarthy figures to need a few more long-toss sessions before trying to throw from a mound. He'll also surely need at least a couple rehab starts, making it unlikely that he'll be activated before the end of the month.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw on flat ground Monday.
"His shoulder feels good," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. McCarthy figures to need a handful of flat-ground sessions before progressing to the mound. It would probably be a stretch to think he could return before the end of the month.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) is feeling fine after suffering a seizure last week.
He and his wife, Amanda, were in a restaurant when he suffered the seizure and was sent to the hospital. McCarthy was told after his brain surgery last season that he might be prone to seizures, but it was the first he had experienced since the operation. It's a scary incident, but the good news is that he's expected to be fine after being prescribed anti-seizure medication. As far as McCarthy's shoulder goes, he's hoping to resume throwing within the next few days.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) underwent an MRI on Tuesday that ruled out structural damage.
McCarthy is only dealing with shoulder inflammation and managed to avoid a more serious setback. He still hasn't been given a clear timetable to return, but Tyler Skaggs figures to make at least 2-3 starts in his place. It's the same injury that has sidelined each of the last four seasons, so the Diamondbacks will move him along slowly.

Brandon McCarthy will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine if he has a stress fracture in his right shoulder.
It's the injury that McCarthy has had in each of the previous four seasons. McCarthy has missed 4-5 weeks in the past due to the ailment, but he's hoping he can return a little sooner this time since he didn't try to push through the injury. Either way, Tyler Skaggs figures to make at least 2-3 starts in his place.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Brandon McCarthy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 31, with a shoulder injury.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that McCarthy would be placed on the DL. The full extent of the injury isn't yet known, but the Diamondbacks should provide an update on his status soon. McCarthy allowed six runs on nine hits and was pulled after three innings in his start Thursday against the Rangers. Randall Delgado has been called up to take his spot on the active roster.

Brandon McCarthy limited the Padres to one run in seven innings Friday to win his second straight start.
McCarthy has allowed just the one run over 24 innings in his last three starts, lowering his ERA from 6.75 to 4.36. His schedule will start getting more difficult again next week, with the Rangers and Cardinals next in line for him.

Brandon McCarthy threw a three-hit shutout as the Diamondbacks beat the Marlins 1-0 on Saturday.
Everybody looks a little better facing the Marlins, but it's the second-straight outing that McCarthy has held the opponent scoreless and he's now turned in three consecutive quality starts. After his early struggles, McCarthy seems to have turned a corner. We look for him to be more consistent going forward. His next turn will come against the Padres on Friday.
