McCarthy has only walked one batter over his last six starts, and he has gone at least six frames in each of those outings. McCarthy allowed two runs in the second but was cruising along until the ninth, when Edwin Encarnacion padded the lead with a two-run shot. The righty threw only 93 pitches in the outing. He'll take a 4.94 ERA into San Francisco this weekend.

He was doomed for an early afternoon after hurling 27 pitches in the first inning, but we were encouraged by the movement of his secondary stuff after a long layoff. The right-hander had been on the shelf since late May due to a chronic shoulder issue. He falls to 2-5 with a 4.94 ERA.
