Avila is out of the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox. Avila returned from a head injury Monday to start consecutive games behind the plate for the Tigers, during which he batted 1-for-8 with five strikeouts. It seems like he's fully recovered from the head injury in advance of the postseason, but manager Brad Ausmus could opt to rest him a couple more times as the regular season winds down. Bryan Holaday will catch for Justin Verlander on Wednesday.

Avila (head) will likely take batting practice before Sunday's game, Chris Lott of MLive.com reports. A return date for Avila is still up in the air, but being able to take batting practice is a step in the right direction. On top of this, he managed to get through a workout Saturday. Because of this, Avila won't likely stay in the dugout for much longer.

Avila (head) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Royals, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Manager Brad Ausmus acknowledged concern Thursday, after Avila felt "disoriented" while taking some swings with the bat. Avila (head) felt "disoriented" after taking some swings Thursday, according to manager Brad Ausmus, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports. Concern is mounting in regard to Avila, who will sit Friday for a fourth straight game and for the eighth time this month. Avila took yet another foul ball off his facemask last Sunday, and a possible return date will remain up in the air until his symptoms subside. The 27-year-old has dealt with concussions each of the past three seasons, but the team still has not labeled his current injury a concussion.

Avila (head) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Twins, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Avila is now set to miss a third straight start, after taking a foul ball off his facemask during Sunday's finale against Cleveland. The team said he was just dealing with some lightheadedness and still has not given any indication that he could be dealing with a concussion, so a return following Thursday's off day seems entirely possible. Bryan Holaday draws another start in his absence.

Avila (head) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Twins, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Another foul ball off Avila's facemask Sunday resulted in some lightheadedness and his early exit from the game, and he's now set to miss a second straight start. The same thing happened to Avila earlier this month, but he missed just three games then and it doesn't sound like he's in danger of missing extended time due to his latest setback. Bryan Holaday draws another start behind the plate Tuesday.
