Hitting second in the order, Jones smacked a double off Marco Estrada in his first at-bat of the season. After drawing a free pass in the third inning, the veteran outfielder came around to score and gave the O's an early 2-0 lead. He failed to reach base in each of his next three plate appearances, but overall it was a productive effort for Jones on Opening Day.

Jones -- who hit from the leadoff spot in 73 percent of his at-bats last season -- will move down in the batting order this year, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Jones batted second last night for Team USA and he hit from the two-hole in all six of his spring games with the Orioles. The newly-acquired Seth Smith is expected to take over the top spot in the lineup while all indications suggest Jones will slot in at No. 2 on the card when Opening Day rolls around. In 605 career at-bats as the second hitter, Jones owns a .291/.337/.479 slash line. Moving out of the leadoff spot should give the veteran center fielder a bump in RBI chances while enjoying the protection of Manny Machado looming in the on-deck circle during Jones' at-bats.

Jones went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout in his spring debut on Saturday against the Pirates.

Jones, batting cleanup, doubled in his second at-bat and had an assist from the outfield in the fifth inning. He's getting into Grapefruit League action early this spring to prepare for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The veteran is set to join Team USA after next weekend's exhibition games.

Jones will leave the Orioles spring training camp on March 6 to join Team USA for the World Baseball Classic, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Position players report to Sarasota on Friday, giving Jones a little more than two full weeks with his MLB club. The center fielder played for Team USA in the 2013 WBC, but his performance was less than impressive (.182/.240/.227 with six strikeouts in 22 at-bats). However, that slump didn't carry over to the big league season, as the 10-year-veteran had a season-high .327 batting average in April that year. With that said, owners shouldn't put too much stock in Jones' WBC performance.

The veteran outfielder launched the first of two fifth-inning round-trippers off Michael Pineda, his 29th blast of the season. Jones has now hit 29 homers for the second time in the last three seasons and one final bomb over the last two games of the campaign will give the third 30-homer season of his career.
