Tomas Vokoun will be between the pipes for the Penguins in New York against the Rangers Sunday.
Vokoun is projected to be the number two goaltender this season with the Penguins but will probably see his fair share of starts to keep Marc-Andr Fleury well rested for the playoffs. Vokoun should be owned by every Fleury owner as a handcuff. He's also a very nice option as a third goaltender in 14-team leagues. He just might end up getting more playing time than your typical number two goaltender.

Tomas Vokoun is focused on being part of a winning team and not on supplanting Marc-Andre Fleury for the team's starter role.
"I knew exactly what I was signing myself up for," Vokoun said. "This wasn't about being the starting goalie or statistics. This was about the bigger picture. I wanted to come somewhere that had a winning environment. I probably had better individual opportunities with other teams, but this was the place for me. This is a place where you can win." Fleury and Vokoun appear to be getting along already and they should co-exist nicely in Pittsburgh. Coach Dan Bylsma has already confirmed that Fluery is his number one netminder and he'll be between the pipes on opening day. Vokoun will probably also see his fair share of starts to keep Fleury well rested for the playoffs.

Tomas Vokoun will play for HC Karlovy Vary of the Czech Extraliga.
Vokoun was born in Karlovy Vary. He was projected to start the season as the Pittsburgh Penguins' backup goaltender. If the season is saved, he might be able to fight his way into a position where he is evenly splitting the netminding duties with Marc-Andre Fleury.

Tomas Vokoun's already-unusual decision to be a highly paid backup for the Pittsburgh Penguins got a little weirder in that he'll wear No. 92.
Vokoun's agent Allan Walsh passes along the news. Cam Charron (https://twitter.com/camcharron/status/211916210995073024) points out that Vokoun is the first goalie to wear No. 92 and the first Penguin since Rich Tocchet.

Tomas Vokoun was partially motivated by a desire to win the Stanley Cup when he signed a two-year/$4 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins acquired Vokoun's rights from Washington in exchange for a seventh round pick. Vokoun is entering a situation where he's projected to be the number two goaltender. However, he seems to be willing to make that sacrifice for the sake of playing for a club with a recent history of success. "I would love to win the Stanley Cup. I've been playing for a long time and I haven't had a chance to do that," Vokoun said. "For me, I think I could be useful in many situations. Whatever they're going to need me to do, I'm going to try and do the best I can to help the team be successful."

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired the rights to Tomas Vokoun and promptly signed him to a two-year/$4 million contract extension.
Pittsburgh sent the Washington Capitals a seventh round pick in exchange for the right to negotiate with Vokoun. He would have become an unrestricted free agent this summer. This is a great pickup for Pittsburgh, but it's also bad news for any potential Vokoun owners. Vokoun will settle into the backup role in Pittsburgh and while he might get more playing time than your typical number two goaltender, his fantasy value is likely to be limited.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will keep an eye on goalies Tomas Vokoun and Anders Lindback this offseason.
The Leafs' goaltending this season was a major Achilles' heel, and they appear to be serious about upgrading the position. Tomas Vokoun, who will be an unrestricted free agent, went 25-17-2 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .917 save percentage this season with the Capitals. Anders Lindback's chances of being a top netminder in Nashville are blocked with Pekka Rinne. The 24-year-old posted a 5-8-0 record with a 2.42 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in the back-up role. He will be a restricted free agent.

The Toronto Maple Leafs might be interested in signing Tomas Vokoun this summer.
Vokoun is very unlikely to re-sign with the Washington Capitals thanks to the emergence of young goaltender Braden Holtby. However, one of the Leafs biggest off-season goals is to get a starting goaltender and Vokoun is projected to be the best one in the 2012 unrestricted free agent pool. There's also a chance that Toronto will acquire a goaltender via the trade market. One notable possibility is Roberto Luongo, who the Vancouver Canucks might be open to trading so that Cory Schneider can take over as the starter.

Tomas Vokoun isn't interested in playing in the KHL at this time.
Vokoun's goal is to play in the NHL next season. The goaltending market can be fickle as there's obviously a limited number of starting jobs and we've seen even established veterans struggle to find a home on occasion. That's probably what motivated Vokoun to ink a one-year deal with Washington last summer. Still, there are teams looking for goaltending help and there's a better than even chance that Vokoun will find a team interested in employing him as a starter.
