Tomas Vokoun understands that his days in Washington are probably over. The 35-year-old netminder is scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency in July after he signed a one-year deal with the Capitals last summer. "I wasn't planning on being back here anyways," said Vokoun. "For me, it was never intention to be here more than a year." His return likely wasn't in Washington's plans either due to emergence of Braden Holtby, mostly during the playoffs, and the fact that Michal Neuvirth also under contract. Vokoun said that he is healthy now, after he ended the 2011-12 campaign on the sidelines with a groin injury, and his agent commented that his client's preference is to stay in the NHL despite rumors that he may head overseas for the KHL.

Tomas Vokoun participated in practice drills and took shots on Wednesday to test out what he referred to as a "pretty severe tear" of his groin muscle. It was the first time he was able to do so with his teammates since he re-injured his groin back on Mar. 29. Unfortunately, a timetable for his return is unknown and he may not even be able to play again this year. "The explanation from the doctor to me was that it's like a concussion," Vokoun said. "Somebody heals in months, somebody else [sooner], it all depends on how your body is reacting so you can't predict. It's not like saying 'it's two weeks and you'll be fine.' It's when you feel good - that's when you're fine. That means you have to go through a full practice and do everything like in a game situation and I haven't done anything close to that."

Tomas Vokoun was on the ice Tuesday, gingerly working on his movements. Vokoun is not expected to be ready when the puck drops on Washington's series against the Bruins, which gets underway Thursday. Vokoun re-aggravated a groin injury March 29 at Boston, which shut him down.

Tomas Vokoun (groin) might skate on Tuesday. Vokoun is apparently behind Michal Neuvirth in terms of his recovery. Given that Neuvirth is questionable to play in the first round, we're not terribly optimistic about Vokoun in the short-term.

Tomas Vokoun (lower body) wasn't on the ice with the Washington Capitals Monday morning. Vokoun shouldn't be counted on to participate in Monday's contest. He has a 2.51 GAA and .917 save percentage in 48 games this season.

Tomas Vokoun might have played in his last game of the regular season - or maybe until next season - on March 29. CSN Washington's Chuck Gormley wonders if Vokoun won't play another game in a Washington Capitals uniform. He generated the best numbers of the team's top two netminders in 2011-12 but was disappointing considering his previous work. He might be a nice fantasy steal as a result next year, though.

Tomas Vokoun left Thursday's game against the Bruins late in the first period with an apparent lower-body injury. Vokoun stopped all seven shots he faced before being replaced by Michal Neuvirth. It was uncertain exactly when and how Vokoun was injured, though it's possible he is still dealing with a nagging groin problem.

Tomas Vokoun will be between the pipes for Washington on Thursday night in Boston in his return from a groin injury. It will mark his first appearance since Mar. 16. "You look at his numbers this year, he's been good for us and he's a veteran," coach Dale Hunter said. "He's been through these things before so it's no question. You look at his numbers, it wasn't up and down. Everybody has a couple [bad] games but in general most of the games he gives us a chance to win every night."

Tomas Vokoun (groin) has declared himself "available" for Thursday's match-up against Boston. The Capitals are expected to travel to Boston with Vokoun, Michal Neuvirth and Braden Holtby on their roster, so it's unclear who will get the nod. Every game is important for Washington down the stretch, especially after they were defeated soundly be Buffalo on Tuesday night in a game with large playoff implications. Vokoun's last start came on Mar. 16, but he said he wouldn't be coming back if it wasn't feeling 100 percent.

Tomas Vokoun (groin) was on the ice for about half an hour on Friday. Vokoun participated in some drills that involved facing shots. "Hopefully it stays the same and I can do a little bit more tomorrow," Vokoun said. "Then we'll see, maybe shoot for some time next week." Vokoun has a 25-17-2 record, 2.53 GAA, and .916 save percentage in 47 games this season.
