Steve Ott has generated one point in 10 games this campaign and he's anxious to help out more offensively.
"Absolutely, it's concerning after 10 games to only have one assist and that's something for myself I want to help produce and help contribute to this team," said the team's co-captain. "Obviously with everybody chipping in, it makes a huge difference in the wins and loss column." Ott has never been much of goal scorer, reaching the 20-goal mark one time in his career, but he is typically capable of producing between 30-40 points.

Steve Ott will be Buffalo's captain in Wednesday's 2013-14 opener at Detroit.
He and Thomas Vanek were named co-captains by the team on Tuesday. Ott will wear the 'C' during Sabres' road games and Vanek will get it at home matches. "It's a tremendous honor, the ultimate honor to wear the C for this team," said Ott, who is in the final year of his current contract. He would like to remain in Buffalo beyond this season.

Buffalo won't make the playoffs this season, but they can still spoil the Jets' chances on Monday.
Winnipeg is three point out of eighth place with just three games left. The two teams will play on Monday. "I guess you can say jealousy breeds a little bit of frustration, and if they have a chance at this, we can possibly knock them off and make them feel the same way that we feel," Steve Ott said. "Personally and pride-wise, I would like to do that to another team so they can have this same feeling."

Steve Ott wasn't afraid to stick up for his teammates during a radio interview Wednesday where he criticized Buffalo's fans for booing the club on home ice.
"I think it's completely ridiculous, to be honest with you," Ott said. In a follow-up discussion, he commented that he wasn't worried about how the fans will react when the team returns home for Thursday's match versus Montreal. "They're proud, passionate fans. I love it," he said. "I think we're all that way. I'm an emotional player. They're emotional fans. We have the same attitude in this dressing room. I think it's great they show they care. Obviously, just looking for that positive atmosphere in that arena. There's a lot of great factors, things to be proud of getting closer to that playoff spot." Ott has eight goals, 21 points and 67 penalty minutes in 40 games during his first season as a Buffalo Sabre.

Steve Ott registered an assist in his 600th NHL game Thursday.
In typical Ott fashion, he also added two penalty minutes, two hits and had a plus-1 rating. Ott has started to fit in with the Sabres, playing much better under coach Ron Rolston than he did under previous bench boss Lindy Ruff. He remains a useful fantasy player that can help owners with points and penalty minutes and is even more useful in leagues that count hits.

Steve Ott has played better since Buffalo's coaching change.
Under interim coach Ron Rolston, Ott has received nearly a three-minute increase in average ice time per game and he's registered nine points in 13 games. With Lindy Ruff leading the Sabres' ship, he had seven points in 17 contests. He's also been taking more faceoffs and he's been doing well in that regard with a 62.7 winning percentage.

Steve Ott's two-goal outburst Tuesday night was helped by getting top-six minutes alongside Jason Pominville and Cody Hodgson.
"It's a treat playing with those guys," Ott said. "They're both highly, highly skilled. Cody is an up-and-coming first-line superstar centerman with his hands and Pommer is Pommer." Interim coach Ron Rolston moved Thomas Vanek to the second line to start the contest and since Vanek got hurt, you can probably expect to see Ott remain on the top line in Buffalo's next game. He snapped a 13-game goal drought Tuesday night against Montreal.
