The only bright spot on the Flyers right now is goaltender Steve Mason.
In fact, this is the first time in quite a while you could point to the Flyers and make the statement that while everything else might be up for grabs, there is no issue in goal. Mason has a 2.37 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. He's given the Flyers a chance in every game he's played and deserves better than a 1-5 record. "He's been everything to us this year," Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds said. "He's standing on his head every single game, keeping us in the game, making every single save he can make and it sucks for him because we're not supporting him on the other end."

Steve Mason let in three goals on 25 shots and took the loss in the Canucks' 3-2 win over the Flyers Tuesday night.
The goaltender just can't catch a break, as his impressive numbers (.926 save percentage, 2.23 goals against average) have translated to a poor 1-4-0 record on a struggling Flyers team.

Look for Steve Mason to get the start in goal for Philadelphia Tuesday.
Ray Emery had a tough time Saturday against the Red Wings so it is likely that Mason will get the net Tuesday. He is 1-3-0 this season but his peripherals are quite good as he has a 2.03 GAA and a .935 save percentage.

The strange thing about the Philadelphia Flyers' woes is that Steve Mason has been the brightest spot in a bleak overall picture.
He stopped 29 out of 31 shots against the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday, but his team still lost 2-1. He has fantastic individual numbers so far (.935 save percentage and 2.03 GAA), yet just a 1-3-0 record. That's what happens when you play for a team that can only score six goals in five games, it seems.

Steve Mason will get the nod on Friday.
"He has been solid like all training camp I liked him," Flyers coach Craig Berube said. "He has looked really big in net, puck's active, handling the puck well and challenging at the right times and has looked really good for me."
