Weiss suffered an upper-body injury in the second period of Friday's game against the Panthers and won't return, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. The origin of Weiss' injury is a bit unclear, but it could be a result of a play in which Weiss hit his head against the boards midway through the second period. Regardless, he will miss the remainder of Friday's contest, and the team will likely provide an update on his status before Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs.

Updating a previous report, Weiss missed Friday's practice due to personal reasons but will be in the lineup Saturday versus the Rangers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. It was feared that Weiss might have suffered a setback with his groin injury Thursday night when he was absent from practice, but coach Mike Babcock indicated that it was nothing of the sort. Weiss will likely reclaim a spot on the Red Wings' third line and aim to continue his hot play.

Weiss was held out of Friday's practice due to an expected aggravation of his groin, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. Weiss was reportedly a game-time decision Thursday night because of the groin issue, but ended up suiting up and providing a goal and two assists for the Wings. He's been scintillating since making his return to action Nov. 24, producing nine points in seven games for the season. However, the groin injury has been lurking over him all season, and it may be just a matter of time before another absence comes about. For now, he'll be considered questionable for Saturday's tilt with the Rangers.

Weiss racked up a goal, two assists (one on the power play), a plus-2 and two penalty minutes Thursday in a win over the Stars. Weiss has made an incredible return from his groin injury, racking up nine points in six games. After totaling just four points each in injury-shortened 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, he's suddenly back to producing in a manner reminiscent of his last few full seasons in Florida.

Weiss picked up a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Flyers. Weiss was rather unproductive in his first season with the Red Wings, as injury troubles limited him to just two goals and two assists in 26 games in 2013-14. This season started out similarly for Weiss on the injury front, but he's shown a massive uptick in production when healthy, collecting four points in just two games since returning.

Weiss scored not one, but two goals in his long-awaited NHL return Monday. His markers paced the Wings to a 4-3 win over the Senators. The veteran hadn't scored in over a year due to various injury troubles and slumping, so it was nice to see Weiss get back into the thick of things. If he can at least partially regain the form that allowed him to rack up 61 points with the Panthers in 2008-09, he would be a wonderful depth piece for Detroit's offense. It's probably a long shot, but he's only 31, so he's worth keeping tabs on.

Weiss will be inserted into the Detroit lineup Monday against Ottawa, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Weiss has only played one game for the Wings this season due to various injuries, but his groin appears to have healed up. He should see time on the third or fourth line and hopes to start to make an impact after a disappointing first couple years.

Weiss scored a pair of goals in two games with AHL Grand Rapids over the weekend. Weiss looked as healthy as he's been since joining Detroit, and the Red Wings hopes he can stay that way as they call him up Sunday. It remains to be seen whether he'll be in the lineup Monday against Ottawa.

Weiss (groin) is expected to return from his conditioning assignment at AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Weiss suited up for Grand Rapids on Friday night and will do so again Saturday before the Red Wings recall him. Once he's back with the team, Weiss figures to be a healthy scratch most nights, but with an upcoming schedule that's chock-full of short breaks in between games, he figures to make an appearance in the near future.

Weiss (groin) will play with AHL Grand Rapids on Friday, and could return Saturday if everything goes well, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Weiss' conditioning stint was announced earlier in the week, though his return date was initially slotted for next Monday or Wednesday. He has played in just one game with the Wings this season, and had just four all of last season in 26 games with the Red Wings.
