Stephen Weiss will see a groin/abdominal specialist Friday in Philadelphia.
His visit may determine if surgery is required. Weiss will sit for a fifth straight game on Thursday night and it doesn't appear as though he's close to returning.

The Detroit Red Wings placed Stephen Weiss on the regular IR on Sunday.
Not a big surprise since the team announced that he'd be out until at least after Christmas thanks to his troublesome groin injury. He's been hugely disappointing this season, although not for a surprising reason, as 2012-13 was also derailed because of injury issues.

Detroit GM Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press that Stephen Weiss is expected to be sidelined through Christmas, at least, with a groin injury.
The Wings are waiting for test results on his MRI, but it's believed that he'll need a second opinion which could mean surgery. Weiss has recorded only two goals and two assists in 26 matches this year.

Don't expect to Stephen Weiss in the Red Wing lineup for a while.
He re-injured his groin muscle yet again and this time the Wings will keep him on the shelf for an extended period. No one has mentioned surgery at this point, but we were just wondering if that might come up if Weiss can't shake this chronic problem.

Stephen Weiss has been sidelined again with a groin injury.
When Weiss misses Thursday's game, it will be the start of his third stint on the sidelines due to this ailment since the start of the preseason. "It was good for a little bit after (the last time); a little bit sore, but nothing crazy, then it went south here pretty quickly," Weiss said. "I'm concerned; anytime you're not in practice and able to skate, it's not a good feeling. So I'm just going to see what the tests say." This is adding to what has been a disappointing campaign for Weiss. He has just four points in 26 games in 2013-14.

Stephen Weiss is back in Florida for Detroit's first visit against his old squad on Tuesday night.
Weiss left the Panthers this past summer after starting his career with the organization back in 2001-02. He has produced just two goals and two assists in 25 games this season with the Red Wings. "Confidence has been a struggle for him," coach Mike Babcock said. "I think when you go to a new place, just not being comfortable makes it hard on you. The reality is - hockey is hockey. He's been a good player his whole career. I don't imagine it's going to take him too much longer."

Stephen Weiss centered Detroit's top line Wednesday night.
Due to injuries to Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, he played between Johan Franzen and Gustav Nyquist. Weiss picked up an assist on Franzen's eighth goal of the year in the Wings' 6-3 loss to Philadelphia. He has just four points in 23 games this season.

Stephen Weiss will return to Detroit's lineup on Saturday.
Todd Bertuzzi won't play because of an upper-body injury. Weiss has missed the last six games because of a pulled groin. He will play alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Daniel Cleary.

Despite the fact he is progressing nicely from a groin injury, Stephen Weiss will likely not suit up against the Senators Saturday.
The Wings tend to be very conservative in their treatment of groin injuries and usually err on the side of caution when deciding if players are ready to return to action. GM Ken Holland spelled out the team's position in that regard. "We're in a marathon. Our experience with groins is that a re-injury can cost another 10 games." We therefore doubt you will see Weiss in Saturday's contest. Barring a setback, Weiss should be able to return to action Wednesday against the Bruins.
