Weiss rotated in during line rushes at Thursday's practice, but he said that he's taking a "wait-and-see approach" to his status for Sunday based on how he progresses over the next few days. The Red Wings should have a better idea about his availability for the Avalanche game following Saturday's practice.

"He's out," Babcock said of the forward, who will be reevaluated Saturday in Toronto. General manager Ken Holland wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of Weiss playing Saturday in Toronto after talking with the team doctor, but it seems more likely than not that he'll be forced out of the game, and quite likely, more to follow. The extent of the injury should be known by the end of the weekend. Weiss had previously been sidelined for much of the first month and a half of the season with a groin issue, but has shined since returning from the injury in November, registering four goals and six assists in nine games.
