The Predators haven't tipped their hand as to what their decision will be with Shea Weber. Nashville has until 11:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday to match the Flyers' 14-year, $100 million offer, or it could possibly work out a deal with Philadelphia in return for not matching. But even Weber's agents have been left in the dark. "We have no clue what's going to happen," Kevin Epp said. "We're all in a state of limbo." One of the reasons for the slow process could be that Nashville's ownership is comprised of 10 people and thus it takes time to get them onboard with a universal decision.

The Flyers and Predators could be working on a trade for Shea Weber. Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren and Nashville general manager David Poile have spoken "just once," since the defenseman signed the massive 14-year, $110 million offer sheet last Wednesday, according to Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer. That leads him to believe a trade is being worked on in return for Nashville not matching because if Poile was planning to match the offer, he would not need to be talking to his counterpart at all. The Preds have until 11:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday to make their decision.

Before signing a 14-year offer sheet with Philadelphia, Shea Weber visited Detroit, New York, and San Jose. In the end, it sounds like Philadelphia was by far his preferred destination. "It turns out, there was no real hard sell [on Weber]," agent Jarrett Bousquet said. "There are a lot of great teams and organizations out there, in great cities. But when you put everything on the table, the Flyers were the best fit in nearly every category. Philly followed with the offer. In the end, it was too good to pass up." Nashville has until Wednesday at 11:59 pm to match the offer or allow him to go to Philadelphia and get draft picks as compensation.

One of Shea Weber's agents, Kevin Epp, made it sound like his client would be fine if Nashville decided to match Philadelphia's offer sheet. "He's had a successful career in Nashville and it's home, so it's not a place where he doesn't think he can't finish his career," Epp said. Nashville has until 11:59pm on Wednesday to reach their decision. If they decide to let him go, they'll receive draft picks from Philadelphia as compensation.

Shea Weber had some interest in playing for the New York Rangers, but the prospect of living in such a big city was a deterrent. Weber's agent said that his client is a "small-town guy." Weber ultimately decided to sign an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Nashville Predators now have a week to match it or allow Weber to leave in exchange for draft picks.

Predators GM David Poile has acknowledged that the Philadelphia Flyers and Shea Weber have agreed to an offer sheet. The Predators now have seven days to match the Flyers offer or accept draft picks as compensation. "We have stated previously that, should a team enter into an offer sheet with Shea, our intention would be to match and retain Shea," Poile said. "Our ownership has provided us with the necessary resources to build a Stanley Cup-winning team. Due to the complexity of the offer sheet, we will take the appropriate time to review and evaluate it and all of its ramifications in order to make the best decision for the Predators in both the short and long-term." Sounds like the Predators might be taking a step back from their previous statements on the matter.

The Philadelphia Flyers' 14-year offer sheet with Shea Weber is reportedly heavily frontloaded. Weber would reportedly earn $52 over the first four years of the contract and $76 million over the first six seasons. If the Nashville Predators don't end up matching this contract, the severe short and mid-term financial obligations could be a big factor. Presumably, they would have probably signed Weber to a more balanced long-term contract if given the choice.

Shea Weber has agreed to a 14-year offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers. The contract is believed to be worth upwards of $100 million. The Nashville Predators now have seven days to match the offer or let him go to Philadelphia and accept draft picks as compensation. It's worth noting that the Nashville Predators are under the salary floor, so not only do they have the space for Weber's contract, you could argue that they need it too. Allowing Weber to walk, especially after losing Ryan Suter earlier this summer, would be a huge blow to Nashville. With all that in mind, it would be shocking if Nashville didn't exercise their right to match this offer.

Shea Weber's agents met with Predators GM David Poile on Monday. Weber is currently a restricted free agent and the Predators are hoping to ink him to a long-term contract. "It's ongoing and hopefully we'll talk later in the week," Poile said. "I would say (we discussed) everything about the Predators, where we are and where we're going and what part Shea has with that."

David Climer of The Tennessean thinks the Predators should try to sign Shea Weber to a long-term contract and, if Weber turns them down, then trade him. That seems to be the growing sentiment among members of the media. It does make some sense from the Predators perspective. Weber will become an unrestricted free agent next season if they only sign him to a one-year deal, so if they can't lock him up to a big contract, then their choices will be reduced to trading him or risk losing him for nothing like they did with Ryan Suter. That being said, there's a wrinkle to the trade Weber theory: the Predators are already well below the salary floor. That doesn't mean that they can't trade Weber, but they'll need to take on a lot of salary in return to avoid dealing with a sizable headache.
