NY Post columnist Larry Brooks speculates that the Rangers should be major players for the services of soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Shea Weber and should try to work out a trade with Nashville to acquire him. He states that Weber is exactly what the Rangers need and there should be very few untouchables on the Rangers' roster who couldn't be moved to Music City should Nashville be inclined to trade Weber to New York in advance of his pending free agency. It will be an interesting season of speculating about Weber's future.

In the aftermath of Ryan Suter's free agent exodus to Minnesota, there's nothing new to report on negotiations with RFA defenseman Shea Weber. "We're not really proceeding with anything right now," said Weber's agent Jarrett Bousquet. "David (Poile) said they want to sign him long-term, so we'll just wait." According to Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman, Weber will not file for salary arbitration so he could become the target of an offer sheet from another team. Just so you know, the Predators have said they will match any offer.

After losing Ryan Suter, the Nashville Predators will now turn their focus to signing Shea Weber. "I'm going to turn my attention to that, and I've told to Shea on numerous occasions he's the captain of our team. I want to build our team around him." Predators GM David Poile said. "He has been terrific in the captain's role, as a player. I hope he will re-sign with us." Weber is currently a restricted free agent, but he can become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Losing Weber would be an even bigger blow than losing Suter, but now that Suter's gone, the Predators might not be able to convince Weber to sign a long-term contract.

Shea Weber is waiting patiently to see what happens with unrestricted free agent Ryan Suter. Whatever Suter decides and the contract he receives will have an impact on the future of Weber. The duo have formed a defense pairing that rivals any team in the NHL, so his potential departure could hurt the Predators in getting Weber signed to a long-term contract. The money Suter gets could also shape the kind of deal that Weber is presented with as well, but Weber could probably demand more as a two-time Norris Trophy finalist. Nashville GM David Poile has said he will make a contract offer to Weber once Suter's decision is finalized.

ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun sees an all-or-nothing proposition for the Predators this offseason with Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. What happens with Suter, who will be an unrestricted free agent, could dictate what goes on with Weber, a restricted free agent. Nashville's goal right now is getting Suter signed before July 1. LeBrun wonders whether Weber would want to stay long-term if Suter bolts, and he doesn't think it's worth it to keep Weber another year before he becomes a UFA if he doesn't want to ink a long-term extension. "Either Suter and Weber both sign extensions to stay in Nashville or they're both gone this summer. There doesn't seem to be any in-between, in my mind," Lebrun says.

Shea Weber admitted to feeling betrayed by Alexander Radulov. "You feel a little bit betrayed, but I am sure (Radulov) feels bad about it now and he looks back on it and wishes it didn't happen," Weber said. "Those are the things you can't take back and we've got to move forward." Weber and Radulov are both scheduled to become restricted free agents this summer. The Predators are expected to not only want to re-sign Weber, but ideally ink him to a long-term deal. However, they might decide to part ways with Radulov.

Shea Weber is still upset about the Predators second round loss to the Phoenix Coyotes and has yet to think about his future. Weber will be a restricted free agent on July 1 but is looking back at the loss to the Coyotes and not his future. He has a lot of options heading into the free agency period, including signing a long-term deal with Nashville, signing a one-year deal with the Predators and becoming an unrestricted free agent the following season or signing elsewhere and allowing Nashville the option of matching the contract or taking compensatory picks. Of course if the Preds do not think they will be able to re-sign him, they could deal him in the off-season. Stay tuned.

The Predators' season has concluded in disappointing fashion and left many players at a loss for words. Nashville defeated the Red Wings in five games during their first-round series, but didn't get nearly the same breaks against the Coyotes, a series they lost in five games. "It's disappointing, but every year you try to make moves that make your team better," captain Shea Weber said. "It's nothing different than in the past, and I don't think it's anything different from going forward. If there are areas we need to address, we'll try to address them. If we're comfortable, we'll stick with what we've got."

The Nashville Predators have been unable to score on the power play at home in the 2012 playoffs. The Predators have not found the back of the net in 20 chances at home thus far but have popped five on the road as Shea Weber, Ryan Suter, David Legwand, Patric Hornqvist and Martin Erat have scored. They will try to get it turned around on Friday when they face Phoenix in Game 4 in Nashville.
