Sean Monahan is very likely to make the team's opening game roster.
Monahan was taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. We can't recommend drafting him in anything other than keeper leagues yet, but he's got plenty of upside and is worth keeping a close eye on.

Sean Monahan has impressed Flames coach Bob Hartley.
"For such a young centreman, I think he's adapting real well to NHL hockey," Hartley said. "He still has things to learn which is perfectly normal for any kids that age. He doesn't get rattled. He's very poised . . . we have big plans for this young man. I don't know Sean a lot but every day, I'm having fun watching him." After Hartley made those comments during Tuesday's morning skate, Monahan went on to score two goals in a preseason contest. Keep an eye on Monahan because he might make the team.

Sean Monahan added 11 pounds of muscle over the summer.
That brings Monahan up to 200 as he sets his sights on a roster spot with the Calgary Flames. He's also been spending the summer studying video of NHL centers. The Flames took him with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft after he recorded 31 goals and 78 points in 58 OHL games last season.

Sean Monahan scored in regulation and he potted the game-winner in a shootout to give Team Red a 3-2 controlled scrimmage victory over Team White on Monday.
Fellow Flames prospect Emile Poirier also scored for the Red squad in the match, while 16-year-old sensation Connor McDavid had a marker on a penalty shot and an assist on a goal from Toronto draft pick Matt Finn. Monahan was the only one to find the back of the net through six rounds of the shootout. The Canadian world junior hopefuls will play exhibition games against Finland (Wednesday), Sweden (Thursday) and the United States (Saturday) to close out summer development camp.

The potential cap hit for Sean Monahan's recently signed three-year, entry-level contract is $1.775 million.
Monahan will get an annual signing bonus of $92,500 and he could earn $832,500 annually in base salary if he plays in the NHL. That sum drops to $70,000 annually at the AHL level. Monahan also has an additional $850,000 he can earn annually in performance bonuses. He was taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and is looking to make the jump to the NHL. As for his new found wealth, Monahan doesn't seem to have any extravagant plans. "Just save it," he said. "Whatever comes up, I'll be able to use my own money now."

The Calgary Flames have signed Sean Monahan to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Monahan was taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. "From our very first interaction with him, Sean has demonstrated a seriousness of purpose and a steadfast resolve to be the very best player he can be, and his character and work ethic have continued to shine through in his preparation this summer," said Flames GM Jay Feaster. "Not only is Sean a very good hockey player, but he is a great person as well. He had a solid showing at our recent Development Camp, and as we shared with him afterward, we look forward to watching him play at our Rookie Tournament in Penticton and then attempt to compete for a spot at Main Camp in Calgary."

Sean Monahan is closed to signing an entry-level contract.
"We'll work on that this week," Flames GM Jay Feaster said. "I had a conversation with his agent last week and we agreed that we would talk at the end of the development camp. When you look at it, the entry-level deals are typically not that difficult to get done, so we'll get about that." Monahan was taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and hopes to make Calgary's opening game roster.
