Sean Monahan played in his ninth game on Tuesday, essentially ending his trial period. If the Calgary Flames want to keep Monahan beyond this point then they have to let this count as the first season of his entry-level contract. The Flames haven't announced their decision yet, but it would be surprising if they returned Monahan to the OHL Ottawa 67's. He has six goals and nine points in nine games this season.

Sean Monahan scored his sixth goal of the season on Monday. That gives Monahan nine points in just eight games. He wasn't regarded as a likely contender for the Calder Trophy after being selected sixth overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but people are starting to take notice of his early accomplishments. It's hard to see him maintaining anything close to his current pace, but he should still have a solid rookie season.

If there were any questions that Sean Monahan would be staying with the Calgary Flames after his nine-game trial, they should be gone now. The 18-year-old center picked up his fifth goal of the season and added his third assist in the Calgary Flames 6-3 loss to the Sharks in San Jose Saturday night. He's establishing himself as a solid rookie-of-the-year candidate. Mikael Backlund and Jiri Hudler also scored goals for the Flames Saturday.

Sean Monahan's strong start to the season continued Friday night in the Flames' 3-2 win. Monahan potted his first ever game-winning goal, and the 19-year-old now has goals in four straight games and six points overall. Defenseman Mark Giordano called him the team's "go-to guy" and coach Bob Hartley also praised the rookie. "He's a monster player," Hartley said. "He's knows where to get open, plus every time I see him with the puck, it seems to find the back of the net. You call this a gifted player. He has that touch. He's a very special young player for us."

Sean Monahan registered a goal and an assist for the Flames in a 3-2 win over Montreal Wednesday night. The rookie has been extremely impressive in his first taste of the NHL with three goals and two assists in his first four games in the league. The Flames have been unsure are unsure about whether to keep Monahan with the club beyond the nine-game threshold, but his play may make that decision for them. Sven Baertschi and Curtis Glencross also found the back of the net in the victory.

Sean Monahan is off to a strong start with two goals and three points in three games. Calgary Flames coach Bob Hartley still sees "lots of junior stuff still in his game," but he wants Monahan to get experience and it helps that the rookie is producing. Monahan was taken with the sixth pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and he has plenty of upside. He's still not guaranteed to stick with the team beyond the nine-game mark, but Monahan is at very least a great guy to own in keeper leagues.

Sean Monahan scored his second goal of the season in a 5-4 loss to Vancouver. It was a tough night defensively for the Flames top pick in 2013 as he was a minus-three. Monahan is a talented 18-year-old and there are going to be plenty of nights this season that Calgary will give up a lot of goals so be prepared if you own Monahan in fantasy pools that his plus/minus will be poor. He now has three points in three games this season.

Sean Monahan has a goal an an assist for the Calgary Flames in two games but the 18-year-old also caught coach Bob Hartley's attention for some mistakes. Hartley said he "saw some junior stuff in (Monahan's) game." When he scored Friday against the Blue Jackets, he became just the second - joining Dan Quinn (1983-84) - to score multiple regular-season points for the Flames before his 19th birthday. Jarome Iginla had points in each of his first two playoff games as an 18-year-old.

Sean Monahan's ankle was hit by a shot at practice, but he's expected to play Friday. Sportsnet's Roger Millions considers Monahan probable to suit up against Columbus, so we'll keep the rookie forward active. Monahan earned an assist in his NHL debut Thursday night in the Flames' 5-4 shootout loss versus Washington.

The Flames dealing for Joe Colborne has no effect on the status of Sean Monahan. Monahan was taken sixth overall in the 2013 Draft and it looks as if he has made the Flames, at least to start the season. "At the this point in time, the acquisition of Joe doesn't do anything to change Sean's status," GM Jay Feaster said. Monahan is a talented two-way center who has impressed the Flames staff. The only question is if Monahan would be better served returning to junior hockey and playing in the U20 World Championships. The Flames will likely give Monahan a nine game trial and then decide his fate.
