Sean Monahan has been on injured reserve because of a hairline fracture in his foot. He is being listed as week-to-week with the ailment. The rookie center scored a goal and logged 14:33 of ice time against Chicago on Wednesday. Monahan co-leads the Flames with nine goals and he ranks second on the club with 15 points in 24 games.

At the tender age of 19, Sean Monahan is fitting in nicely with his Calgary Flame teammates. Monahan was selected sixth overall in the 2013 Draft and it was thought he could get a nine game audition and then be sent back to junior hockey but Monahan has been a stud with the Flames and his 14 points are second on the squad. "I've got a pretty good relationship with Sean - we talk a lot," teammate Lee Stempniak said. "He jokes around. He's just one of the guys. Maybe we talk to him a little more (than others), just to give him encouragement. Other than that, he's one of the guys. Sean's fit in from Day 1. He's funny. A good sense of humor. Just really likable." Monahan will be the face of the Flames franchise for years to come. If he is still available in keeper leagues, grab him now.

After rookie Sean Monahan scored the game-winning shooutout goal to give Calgary a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers Friday, Flames coach Bob Hartley had high praise for the rookie. "He's a goal-scorer," Hartley said. "He has great vision, plus he has great poise. You can't teach poise." For Monahan, 19, it was the second time in less than a week that he had the decisive snipe in a shootout. It also gave the Flames their first shootout win on Calgary ice since Feb. 11, 2012, a span of 650 days.

Sean Monahan suffered an injury scare at practice Thursday. He was struck in the foot by a shot and left the ice temporarily. However, he was able to return and appears to be all right. Monahan has been solid in his rookie season with the Flames in 2013-14. He has recorded eight goals and 14 points in 22 games, which ranks him second on the team in both categories.

Sean Monahan is getting noticed for stepping up when games are on the line. "Maybe it's too early to tell, but one thing is sure, every time the game is on the line or there is a key moment, it seems he's there to shine," head coach Bob Hartley said. "You can't teach that. Either you have it or you don't." Monahan has been somewhat hot-and-cold so far this season, but on the whole, he's had a very impressive start to his career. He ranks second in the rookie scoring race with 14 points in 21 games.

Sean Monahan sniped a goal for the Flames in their 4-2 loss to the Oilers on Saturday night. The goal snapped a six-game goalless streak for the rookie, who has really seen his production slow down in November, with only three points. The 19-year-old has eight goals, 13 points and a minus-one rating on the year. Dennis Wideman had the other goal, while Jiri Hudler, Matt Stajan and Sven Baertschi recorded the assists.

Sean Monahan has cooled down after his incredible start to his NHL career. Monahan had six goals and nine points in his first eight games, but he's been held off the scoresheet for four consecutive contests. He didn't endure a point drought of more than three contests last season in the OHL, but obviously now that he's in the NHL, he's going to have to get used to enduring cold streaks. He could prove to be very streaky this season, as is typical for rookies, but Monahan is still one of the better bets in the 2013-14 rookie scoring race.

Calgary Flames coach Bob Hartley said there was never a point where he worried Sean Monahan wouldn't be able to handle life in the NHL. "I've never," Hartley said, "coached a guy his age who has so much poise, so much maturity. The way he handles himself on the ice and with the other players. Alex Tanguay, at 20, in Colorado, I guess was close. But Sean's just turned 19." Monahan has completed his nine-game audition and will stay with the Flames. He already has six goals and three assists this season.

Sean Monahan will stay with the Calgary Flames beyond his nine-game trial period. That's not surprising given what we've seen so far, but it wasn't expected going into this season. Monahan has gotten off to a great start with six goals and nine points in nine games this season.
