Maybe we talk to him a little more (than others), just to give him encouragement. Other than that, he's one of the guys. Sean's fit in from Day 1. He's funny. A good sense of humor. After rookie Sean Monahan scored the game-winning shooutout goal to give Calgary a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers Friday, Flames coach Bob Hartley had high praise for the rookie. "He's a goal-scorer," Hartley said. "He has great vision, plus he has great poise. You can't teach poise." For Monahan, 19, it was the second time in less than a week that he had the decisive snipe in a shootout. It also gave the Flames their first shootout win on Calgary ice since Feb. 11, 2012, a span of 650 days.

"I've never," Hartley said, "coached a guy his age who has so much poise, so much maturity. The way he handles himself on the ice and with the other players. Alex Tanguay, at 20, in Colorado, I guess was close. But Sean's just turned 19." Monahan has completed his nine-game audition and will stay with the Flames. He already has six goals and three assists this season.

Sean Monahan will stay with the Calgary Flames beyond his nine-game trial period. That's not surprising given what we've seen so far, but it wasn't expected going into this season. Monahan has gotten off to a great start with six goals and nine points in nine games this season.
